The Piatt County Genealogical & Historical Society has some information about the Patrick Coyle family. However, the Society does not have an internet connection. Please contact me at jnevling@monticello.net. We have a newspaper account of his marriage, date of a divorce, birthdate of
William Hamilton Coyle, his son, marriage date of Florence Coyle & William McFeeters, obituary of Mary L. Coyle who died at age 88. The birth records are at the Piatt County Courthouse.
Please contact me at my email address and ask for what you would like to have. There is no death record for Patrick Coyle. I did find him in St. Louis in 1870 on Heritagequestonline. Let me know what you should like to learn.
Janet Nevling.

Yes, it helps very much! I was able to tie together quite a few pieces of information. The only item I am missing now is their place of burial.

Here are a few more details that tie in with what you found. Wilbur and Anna married at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Lydia (Ferrington) Kimball. Previously, I did not have proof of that, but I did suspect it was true. At that time, Lydia was widowed, and her only child, daughter Hattie, had died, as well as her son-in-law Leander Arnold, leaving Lydia to raise her three grandchildren. Lydia left Chicago and moved to Galesburg, Illinois shortly after Wilbur and Anna married there. Lydia died in 1902, leaving her three granchildren totally orphaned. I have not found the children after they were seperated and sent to different homes in Galesburg. That leaves the question of whether Anna had been living with her aunt Lydia in Chicago when she met Wilbur. Anna's mother died when Anna was 11 years old, and her father died 4 years prior to that. With the loss of the 1890 census, I don't know who raised Anna and her younger sister Maude, or older brother Harvey. Harvey and Maude both married in Monmouth, and both of their families moved to North Dakota. Maude and family later moved on into Canada. Harvey's family moved back to Monmouth about the time of his death in 1910.

I also found that Wilbur and Anna's daughter Miriam died 14 January 1922 in South Ottawa Township, La Salle County, Illinois, per the Illinois Death Index. That seems a long way from home for her. I wonder if she may have been at some hospital or home there. I still don't know why I put her name down as Beatrice in my first posting, as I knew it was Miriam.

At any rate, there were a surprising number of young deaths in this family. Anna's mother was married twice. Her first husband and all of their 5 children died within 10 years of her marriage. Anna's mother married a second time, to Samuel David Hallam, and had 3 more children who all survived to adulthood. Anna died at age 33, her brother Harvey at 42, but sister Maude made it age 86.

Thanks again for all of the great information!

My ancestors, Daniel Glick and his family (arrives in 1865), as well as his widowed daughter, Matilda Cline Albert (arrives in 1870), and her family, settled into the Champaign (Sadorus) area as well as the Piatt County area.

James S Buchanan and Lucinda Cline (one of Matilda's daughters) Buchanan end up having a bunch of children in the Piatt area and settling and dying there.

Also another of Daniel's children, Solomon Monroe Glick settles (arrive in 1860) and dies in the Piatt county area somewhere after 1920. (I cannot find where he and his family are buried.)

He lived near Terre Haute at one time, and according to a Coles Co. historian made frequent trips back there to buy or sell scrap.

Would appreciate any leads on him or his family from Piatt Co.

thanks

For Cerro Gordo (or other towns) newspapers, look for the county on the map at the Illinois Newspaper Project (run by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Chicago History Museum)

http://www.library.illinois.edu/inp/map.html

and then take a look at the newspapers listed. Click on the newspaper title to see what years are currently held by libraries in Illinois. Print it out and take it to your local public library to see if they can arrange an Interlibrary Loan. Some microfilm are available for loan and some are not.

Think of donating if you have any old Illinois newspapers gathering dust.

They are just starting to digitize full pdfs of farm newspapers and magazines from the 19th and early 20th century, with full searching and browsing capabilities. Some pdfs have been scanned too dark, but others are very clear. Since you know approximately which magazine and the time frame, why don't you email them and ask if they could see if your Willow Branch Church cover is coming up for inclusion in their website?

Looking for any information on the mentioned newspaper article in The Daily Review, Decatur of April 18, 1904 about a photography collection of George Bowen in Cerro Gordo. The collection was on exhibit at Mr. Metzgar’s show window. The exhibit was of 100 baby pictures taken by George Bowen, photographer. Any information would be appreciated, I am looking to get copies of the pictures, will pay for copies and shipping. I am a Great Grandnephew of George Bowen.

Pat Bowen
Lucia when you answered my query I was so interested in looking for information on the watch bob about the J.O.U.A.M society that I completely read right through the first sentence. I would be interested in what you found on the Bowen family as you listed in your reply about the Methodist Church and Masons. Let me know what the research cost, copies and postage would be. My Grandfather John I. Bowen was the son of Daniel Bowen also living in Cerro Gordo and also a Civil War Veteran with the Illinois 116 Infantry.

Thanks, Pat Bowen
I am looking for information or a connection to a Thomas and Nancy Brooks who are on a 1870 census in Blue Ridge. They have listed with them a William Brooks who I think might be the William Brooks I am interested in. He later married Laura Harless and had children Edward, Eva and Pansy. If any of this sounds familiar, please respond. I am hitting a brick wall here, repeatedly.
Thanks
Cyndy Moen

I have one and a half very yellowed legal pages of listed info on the Deemers which we believe was typed by my husbands g-grandmother. She was Susie(Ward)Brown, daughter of Emaline(Deemer)Ward, the child of Michael Deemer. Michael was one of 7 boys and 2 girls, one of the brothers of Jacob. There is NO date on the pages and minimal dates have been provided in the body. However, it does provide locations which we think might have been where they were living at the time of its creation. It shows: Wm. J., Freeport IL; Edward Tuscala IL; Jessie Danville IL; Rollin Atwood IL; Mamie Freeport IL & Clara Atwood IL. Would be happy to share if you send me your email address.
