Surnames: Hallam, Hammond
I am looking for burial information on Anna Sophia (HALLAM) HAMMOND, who died in Bement, Piatt county on 21 September 1904. She was the wife of Wilbur A. HAMMOND, b. 1870, and the mother of at least one child, Beatrice HAMMOND, b. abt. 1903. Her husband remarried to a Mary E. a few years later. I have no other information beyond that.

Thank you!

Yes, it helps very much! I was able to tie together quite a few pieces of information. The only item I am missing now is their place of burial.

Here are a few more details that tie in with what you found. Wilbur and Anna married at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Lydia (Ferrington) Kimball. Previously, I did not have proof of that, but I did suspect it was true. At that time, Lydia was widowed, and her only child, daughter Hattie, had died, as well as her son-in-law Leander Arnold, leaving Lydia to raise her three grandchildren. Lydia left Chicago and moved to Galesburg, Illinois shortly after Wilbur and Anna married there. Lydia died in 1902, leaving her three granchildren totally orphaned. I have not found the children after they were seperated and sent to different homes in Galesburg. That leaves the question of whether Anna had been living with her aunt Lydia in Chicago when she met Wilbur. Anna's mother died when Anna was 11 years old, and her father died 4 years prior to that. With the loss of the 1890 census, I don't know who raised Anna and her younger sister Maude, or older brother Harvey. Harvey and Maude both married in Monmouth, and both of their families moved to North Dakota. Maude and family later moved on into Canada. Harvey's family moved back to Monmouth about the time of his death in 1910.

I also found that Wilbur and Anna's daughter Miriam died 14 January 1922 in South Ottawa Township, La Salle County, Illinois, per the Illinois Death Index. That seems a long way from home for her. I wonder if she may have been at some hospital or home there. I still don't know why I put her name down as Beatrice in my first posting, as I knew it was Miriam.

At any rate, there were a surprising number of young deaths in this family. Anna's mother was married twice. Her first husband and all of their 5 children died within 10 years of her marriage. Anna's mother married a second time, to Samuel David Hallam, and had 3 more children who all survived to adulthood. Anna died at age 33, her brother Harvey at 42, but sister Maude made it age 86.

Thanks again for all of the great information!
