Lucia thanks so much I got the package in the mail yesterday and it gives me a lot of information I did not have. One item is the surname of my Step-Great-Grandmother, it is different than I had gotten from another source, another quest.

For Cerro Gordo (or other towns) newspapers, look for the county on the map at the Illinois Newspaper Project (run by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Chicago History Museum)

and then take a look at the newspapers listed. Click on the newspaper title to see what years are currently held by libraries in Illinois. Print it out and take it to your local public library to see if they can arrange an Interlibrary Loan. Some microfilm are available for loan and some are not.

Think of donating if you have any old Illinois newspapers gathering dust.
