My great grand parents were from Marshaltown, Iowa. George
Rinehart born 1874? and Pearl Mae Rinehart 1878? Both
moved to Texas in the 20's or 30's to live with their daugher Marie Schinko ( married to Joe Schinko 1925 )
My grand parents had one daughter Catherine ( Cathie Laughlin ) I am her son Richard. I would like to know anything and everything I can about my great grand parents and their family. I know alot of the Rinehart's still live
in Marshalltown. My grandmother had two brother's Homer and Alan, two sisters Neoma or Naomi and their little Sister "Tiny" she died in Texas from a brain tumor. My mother had a little sister who died after birth in Marshalltown, her name was Dorothy Marie Schinko and is buried in one of the old cememtaries there. My great grandmother Pearl Mae's maiden name was Downs. There is a tomb somewhere in that area with " Downs" on the peak of the tomb. Anyone know my family? My grandmother's husband's family were from Marshalltown also, Josef and Catherine Schinko, they had three children, Frank, Mary, and ( Joe born in May 1906. George Rinehart also had a brother that my grandmother spoke of but I do remember is his name, they were both adopted by the Rinehart family ( I think from a train full of orphaned children from upstate ).

Hi List,

Searching for an obituary for:

Evelyn M. Armour d. January 1, 1982 in Carrollton, Texas

Have written and called the Dallas Paper but they can't find an obit there. Hoping one appeared in a Ogle County Paper as she lived in Stillman Valley earlier with children from this area. Her husband, Willard, died in Stillman Valley sometime in 1957.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Thank you
Glen
I am trying to find the parents of Joshua Hardesty wife, Maria Brown. I think she may be a sister to the Furtney D Brown that married Susan Hardesty. Joshua and Susan Hardesty were the children of Caleb and Susannah Hardesty, from Spencer Co., KY., Joshua and Maria came to Putnam Co., IN., in the early 1800's Does this connect with your family??? Thanks George Brown

Re: William & Sarah (Clark) Chase

Thanks for another clue! :) I've been trying to track more info down non-stop since seeing your message last night. It's just gotten more confusing though too. I had seen William & Sarah Chase enumerated 10 Jul 1860 at Hiram Matter [Motter]'s in Pine Creek, Ogle co. Last night I found William A. Chase, b. MD, right age, at Jacob & Sarah Clark's on 22 Jun 1860 in Rockvale, Ogle co. Also there is daughter Sarah, b. abt 1840. I thought great! Her parents! Then I found this page for Sarah A. Clark Wood on Find a Grave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=31.... So now I'm even more confused than before. Were there two Sarah Clarks in Ogle county at the same time? Were there also two William Chases from MD there at the same time? Possible but doubtful. I posted to the person who maintains that page & other Clark ones. I'm wondering what proof there is that Sarah Clark, daughter of Jacob & Sarah married Elisha Wood. I found their marriage on an index here on 2 Oct 1865 but doesn't list parents. The Find A Grave one died a few days after giving birth to her son.

The other thing, the census from 1850 that you found, William Chase/Chace was with the Hiram Motter/Matter family that he was with in 1860. I traced them back to Hagerstown, MD and saw on the census that Hiram's father Jacob owned slaves. So I'm wondering if William was one they freed & stayed working for them or if he could've been even related to them. More & more questions! Thanks again, now I can try & find them through another adult child. I have yet to find them in IL or IA in 1880. Perhaps they were on the move during the census.

This is all very interesting to me as my husband is white & neither one of us would've thought there would be anything but that since his family is known for a few generations back. Wow. Off to see if I can trace them more now . . .

The home was owned and operated by Eva Joyce, and was near downtown Rochelle, a block north of the phone company. Yes, it was an old victorian home, transformed into a nursing home. It was privately owned. It was still open in 1969, may have closed early 1970. Eva closed the home and left Rochelle, probably to be near her son. Any records would most likely be at the Ogle County Court House. The Rochelle News Leader newspaper may have archived information, also.

Unfortunately all I have is their names no dates for my Hettinga/Heddinga, the name was given to me years ago by an Aunt who is no longer with us.
I don't know if they came to the USA or not.

Is that Allardus van Hettinga b. 1839 and m. to Margaretha Siebelds/Siebold? If so, the wife was the sister of my 2x great grandmother. If you are interested I have a bit more information on the Sielbold family.

And yet more info, Every person that own a house in later day's Adeline. Had a 10 acre plot outside of town. There are old plat maps of Adeline at Bertolet, in the Ogle county history books, there. I wish they could be checked out. They have to remain at the library.

Anyway these 10 acre plots, were for supplying firewood, raising livestock, planting a garden. Hap Gennant, drew a map as he remembered Adeline,in the 1920's. I believe Karen Dickenson, has it stored alway in her townmeeting ledgers, It showed all the stores, and shop locations. Ivan Gennant "Tonto", as they called him. Had lived where Luke Sheely, now lives. I wish I had talking to him about, Adeline. And, I was told the family, that originally built this house, I live in had 5 children, I guess from what I've been told. There was another building west of my house, at had a 5-holer toilet, in it. I tore the kitchen that was attached to the north side of the house, off. Inside the walls, were old newspapers dating back to 1899, they laid out flat against the outside walls for insulation. I still have them stored in the attic of my pole barn, They are very, very brittle, it's about a stack of spread out pages, about two, maybe three inches thick. I'm afraid to look at them, though I'd like to browse through them again. Would need a large area to spread them out, and would have to hold my breath, so they would not blow away and disintegrate! Neat stuff, in them though, as I remember!
Shelby Cain's uncle Earl Cain, had lived in my house, at one time. I hear that when he lived here, this house was full of lathes and milling machine, and Ham radio equipment. He was the well drilling and the Jack of all trades. In 1970, when I was 16, I drove here, to go to an auction, which, I never found, But when I came into the north side of town. There was a Warren Truss, single lane, wooden board floored bridge, and as it came it town, it lined up with Mill st. and split. At the four-way, on that empty northwest corner was this monstrous Wood framed, two, or three story building that stretched all the way to Grove street, from what Kenny Sheely tells me, it had beautiful curved staircases, it housed a Theater, with a stage, a roller rink, a bowling alley, a dance hall and a restaurant. It may have even been a hotel. Somewhere in that Goliath of a structure. That property had belonged to Earl, too. There were two 7-24 taverns, and possibly a third. Read about the "Carroll County Cyclone", there a funny story in it about the Adeline taverns, there. Then there were, Cathouses here, too! There was a large brass band, located here. They used to show street movies, on the side of that big building. Shelby Cain, could probably tell you stories. But he is very hard to open up, and you'd probably have to talk, politics, for a couple of hours, First! And then by then he might open up, a little.
Yes! Adeline was a wild little town at one time!

Adeline Brian

Another fact is you can still see, the outline of the old mill dam, in aerial photos. It lines up perfectly, with the alley, between Grove and Cedar street, There was a saw mill here, and at the 4-H camp that dam was for the grist mill. North of Adeline, starting at the Leaf river here. Was over a hundred square mile Red Oak forest, they called North Grove. Can't fathom, that many Oak trees! My house is basically what you call a balloon structured log house, there is still bark on the wood, that is exposed in the basement and attic.

Our town founder, John Rummel, was born on March 22,1815 in Hohenstaufen, Goppingen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, He died on Nov. 18th,1903 in Afolkey. It turns out, he was a fugitive draft dodger in Germany, with a warrant out for his arrest. Fled to America, to Pennsylania, in, or around 1839
