Emma - I was checking my notes. The 1946 cemetery reading had these notations:

"Ezra Bostick ------------Revolutionary soldier"

"Drusilla Bostick Consort of Ezra Bostick d ---------1849" "(both very dim)"

So I think we can safely assume that this information came from a cemetery marker's inscription because of the notation in parentheis of "both very dim".

However, the 1980 & 1985 cemetery readings did not have this information. Whether this is in indication that the cemtery marker no longer exists, was damaged, unreadable, or was overlooked, I do not know. When the new survey is done, perhaps these questions can be answered. Jeanne Johnson

You're welcome. Thanks for the offer of a copy of Ezra's pension file but I will pass. I just wanted to make sure that it was documented somewhere before I enter that date into the interment database. Your ancestor and mine (James Richardson) are the only RW soldiers buried at McCord. So I suppose it would be up to you and/or me to make inquiries of the local D.A.R. chapter about marking the graves and I'm up to my ears right now documenting over 255 individuals interred at McCord. Please visit http://restoremccord.blogspot.com/ to learn more about the changes taking place at McCord Cemetery. Thanks for your interest, Emma, and good luck with your research.

Thanks for you reply to my query re: Ezra Bostick' tombstone in McCord Cemetery.
Ezra was an AR pensioner. After his death his widow Drusilla filed for widow's pension. That is where the date of his death comes from. I can furnish you a copy of that if it is desirable. I am so glad to know someone is interested in this cemetery and making plans to restore it.
It would be good if the local DAR chapter would get involved in marking the AR Patriots graves.
Emma Lou Price

I have copies of three sources for interment info at McCord. None of them indicate a marker for Ezra or his wife Drusilla. A new survey will be conducted soon. "Restore McCord" is a newly formed group with goals to restore this cemetery and care for it. It has been mowed and cleared of briars and excess vegetation last month. Another survey will be done. We can use help. Please contact me if you're interested in providing assistance, either monetarily or otherwise. I am very interested in how you were able to learn his death date - whether it be from documentation or unsourced information. Thanks! J.Johnson

He is found on the 1870 Montgomery Co. census (listed as Fides Kitchenberger) with his wife and the following children: George, age 20; Chas. 8 b.IL, Michael 16 b.IL; John 14 b.IL; and Mary 12 b.IL. Before coming to Montgomery Co., the family was living in Goodhue Co. MN in 1860 and 1865.

George Kotsenburg/Kitsenburg married Ellen Gallagher in 1873 in Montgomery Co. Her father, James Gallagher, gave his consent to the marriage performed by Anthony Vogt, Catholic priest.

Any information on this family would be appreciated.

McCord Cemetery Needs Help

Historic McCord Cemetery Needs You

A cemetery exists because lives are worth remembering. It pays homage to the lives that have gone before us and honors our veterans. Sadly, the nearly 175-year-old McCord Cemetery in Irving Township of Montgomery County, Illinois has declined over the years (photos are available upon request). Weedy vegetation has climbed over toppled gravestones and brambles have intertwined with historic markers, including those of veterans from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Black Hawk War, and the Civil War. Many of the first settlers of the nearby community are interred here but the exact number may be lost to the ages. The sexton records and other records of the old McCord Cemetery Association cannot be found.

McCord Cemetery needs your help now before it's too late. Perhaps you can come out for a cleanup day, or help map the cemetery or photograph cemetery markers. Are your skills and talents better suited for behind-the-scenes research? Perhaps you have access to local newspaper archives and can search for obituaries and death notices that mention burial in the cemetery. Or perhaps you have access to funeral notices, death registers, bible records, etc. that can be used in compiling a list of interments for those missing cemetery markers or unmarked graves. Please contact Joyce Williams aurien1@aol.com to volunteer. For those of you who are local, there is an organizational meeting planned for November 7 in Irving if you're able to attend.

How else can you help? Share this announcement with your fellow researchers. Post it on appropriate blogs and forums. And if you have family members buried at McCord or have photos of cemetery markers, contact Jeanne Johnson at jj@tampabay.rr.com

The Cemetery committee "Restore McCord" welcomes monetary donations. Much of the work will be provided freely by volunteers, but equipment, supplies, and some specialized services (such as restoring markers and searching for buried stones and interments) may need to be purchased. We could use someone experienced in historic grant applications also. Our recently-formed group will coordinate the much needed preservation, restoration, and maintenance efforts to McCord under the auspices of the award-winning Irving Area Historical Museum http://www.irvingmuseum.org/ The Museum, established in 1999, is a volunteer not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving local history. Its members' dedicated efforts have been formally recognized by the 2002 Governor's Home Town Award and two Studs Terkel Humanities Service Awards. The Museum has set up a separate checking account for donations. If you'd like to help with the finances of this endeavor, please contact the museum at irvingmuseum@consolidated.net

We hope that you'll join us in the effort to protect this cemetery from extinction. Interment and inscription information from this effort will be distributed freely and we want to ensure continued maintenance of the cemetery grounds after restoration. Your help towards these worthwhile goals would be greatly appreciated. J. Johnson

FAQ
Where exactly is the McCord Cemetery located?
The cemetery is located in Irving Township of Montgomery County between Hillsboro & Irving communities on McCord's Trail. Other nearby communities are Taylor Springs, Butler, and Schram City.
Coordinates of the McCord Cemetery are: Latitude 39.1892139 Longitude -89.444809

What size is the McCord Cemetery?
It is approximately two acres.

Who do I contact to volunteer or for more information?
Joyce Williams aurien1@aol.com
I recently acquired a family photo album of the William H and Eliza (Black) Corlew family. After I got it home I realized that it contains a wealth of information as well as about 30 photos!!! Yes, 30 !!. It even has names written in the album for the pictures that are missing. I think the written information would be as accurate as a family bible. Rather than keep the album I would prefer it be shared with family members that would value this find. I would certainly hope that anyone finding such information from my family tree would try to contact someone in my family. I would only ask what I paid for it plus shipping.
please contact me at: wylie8689@aol.com

Hello - I am hoping someone on this board might know the burial location for Col. Allen Roscoe ELLIOTT (1889-1961) and wife Margaret (ANDREWS) ELLIOTT. Mr. ELLIOTT was the only son of Lila (GRUBBS) ELLIOTT. I do not know Allen Elliott's father's name. Col. Allen Roscoe ELLIOTT died at the age of 72 on 23 Jul 1961 in Culver, Marshall Co., Inidana and his Culver obituary states that he was interred at the place of his birth in Litchfield, Illinois, but it does not name a cemetery.

Thanks for any help.

George S. Paddock

Looking for the PARENTS of George S. Paddock, reportedly born 4 June 1826 in NJ; died 7 May 1878, Neosho County, KS. Buried in Thayer, KS cemetery, alongside Samuel Paddock, son of Ebenezer Paddock of Sussex County, NJ. George S. doesn't seem to be a brother to Samuel, since we find Samuel's father, Ebenzer Paddock's family listed in the Sussex County, NJ Census without George S. They must have been closely related though, since we find the two boys with wives on Illinois farms in adjoining Counties in the 1860 Census. Samuel in Christian Co. and George S. in Montgomery Co. Later they both moved to Chetopa Twp., Neosho Co., KS. and bought adjoining property. They both died there.

c in 1860.

Funeral services were held in Pana Friday afternoon, and burial was made in the Nokomis cemetery. Griffith was 79 years old. He enlisted in the army when 14 years old, and served three years and nine months with Co. C, Eighteenth Ohio Volunteers.
Rev. J. A. GARRISON for many years a minister in various Methodist churches in Illinois, including one at Walshville, died at his farm residence two and a half miles north of Walshville, at 2:45 Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were held this morning at the Methodist church in Walshville. Rev. McCRACKEN, a friend of many years standing, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. ANDERSON of Sorento. Interment was made at Kirkland cemetery near Sorento. A large number of friends attended the service. James Allen Garrison was born near Walshville and had resided in that vicinity all of his life. At the time of his death, he was aged 80 years, 4 months and 15 days. For many years, he was pastor of various churches but retired about six years ago on account of age and failing health.
Sarah Jane GARRISON was born April 3, 1857 at Lorraine, Ill, the daughter of Daniel and Angeline HOLDEN. On January 14, 1875 she was united in marriage to Rev. James A. Garrison, at Quincy, Ill. Six children were born to them, three of whom preceded their mother in death, Mary Alice and Olive Josephine in infancy and Daniel Albert who died at the age of fifteen years at Jacksonville, Fla. While serving with the U.S. Army in the Spanish American War. The surviving children are Delphia, wife of Richard MILLER of Pound, Wis., Charles of Springfield, Ill. And Monroe Elmer of Wichita, Kans. She is also survived by a half-sister Mrs. Lillie OLLER of Mendon, Ill., and Ed Holden of Lorraine, Ill., eleven grand-children and twenty-four great-grand children and one great-great-grand child and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Garrison preceded her in death in May 1926. She grew up in the county where she was born and soon after her marriage moved to Walshville and her home was in that community for many years. In August 1942 she went to make her home with her daughter at Pound, Wis. She passed away on February 25, 1948 at 7:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, age ninety years, ten months and twenty two days. In early life she was united with the Methodist Church and she remained a faithful member to her death. Her Christian life has been an influence in all the lives of her many descendants and friends. She remained very active for one of her age and she kept a lively interest in all her family, and will be sadly missed by all. Interment in Kirkland cemetery.

A Buie female died, probably in Montgomery County, between 1841 and 1844. She was the wife of Alexander Buie and was born between 1800-1810. They also had a son born 1825-1830 who may have died between 1841-1849 and have been buried there. Sorry, I do not have first names. Other spellings of the name Buie would be Bowie, Booie, Bui, etc. Is there anyone who could check old cemetery records to see if there is anyone of that name buried in Montgomery County?

On the 1880 census, Filmore, Montgomery Co. IL there is listed a William M. Brown age 41 born in NC and his wife Mary A. who apparently is Mary A. Edwards (married in Montgomery County, IL 1861). Also listed in the household is "father", William Brown age 70 born NC. Could this be the William Brown from Iredell Co. NC who is reported as marrying Mary Baxter? Some people have claimed William Brown was the son of James Thomas Brown and Jane Love who lived in Iredell Co. NC. I can't tell if all this is mis-information or correct information, or could these be two different Brown families. Others children in the family apparently were James J. Brown, David Franklin Brown, Martha E. Brown, Robert B. Brown, Hezekiah Brown and Thomas C. Brown. Some of these children are found on the 1860 and 1870 census in Bond Co. Illinois but not with parents William and Mary Baxter Brown.

My side of the Fay's were all from Sangamon, Menard, Macoupin, Menard Counties. IF anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you

I have found him in the 1900 US Census for Walshville, IL listed as the grandson living with an Edward Kline (born 1835 in Germany) and with a William Kline born in 1877 in IL (Son of Edward Kline). I also know Ed Bartels was living in Walshville, IL per the 1920 Census with his wife Augusta (maiden name Schnackel sp?) and sons Theodore and Harry. I also have a draft registration card from WW1 1917-1918 showing him in the Jacksonville State Mental Hospital in Jacksonville, IL. I am unsure of his death date or where he is buried. There is a record of death in the Illinois Statewide Death Index for 1926 that may be him.
I am trying to find the parents or siblings of Ed Bartels and where he was prior to the 1900 Census. If anyone has any information, it would be appreciated.

Hi Robert,

I have located the tombstone of Austin Whitten Sr. He is buried in Bost Hill Cemetery, Fillmore, Illinois. I also found the tombstone of his wife Keziah (Casey) Whitten there. Was Austin Sr. married twice? There is also a tombstone there with the name of Sophia Whitten and it says: Sophia wife of Austine Whitten, S. Could the S stand for Sr? I hope you can shed some light on this for me. You can e-mail me direct at lila.fugate@comcast.net.
Also do you live near Hillsboro, Illinois?

Thank you,

Lila Jean Fugate

I am doing research on Lebeters that came from England in 1870s. You can check out my tree if you wish. Thomas born 1869 and brother William born 1862 came to Illinois as children. I don't know their father's name, but thought it might be Moses. Does any of this sound familiar? I thought some of your tree may overlap mine. karenfedway@yahoo.com
Karen L.
P.S. Thomas married Gwennie, born in Ohio. William married Elnora Caldwell born in Bond, IL Many English Lebeters were coal miners and many who came to US also worked in West Virginia coal mines before or after moving to IL

There are so many Lebeters all over the world that immigrated from England. There are few Lebeters in the USA and most are related. They descend from a bunch of coal miners from Wales or Derbyshire, that ended up in Illinois mostly. They immigrated in 1874 and/or 1883. They mostly worked as coal miners in the US until mid 1900s.

A Norah Lebeter was the wife of William Lebeter during the 1900 Census of Shoal Creek, Bond, IL. William born about 1863 in England, Norah born about 1869 in Missouri. In 1900 had 5 children: Fred B 1887 in Iowa, William A. B 1890 in Iowa, Lilla M. B 1892 in Iowa, Clara G. B 1895 in Illinois, and Glen C. B 1898 in Illinois. I am trying to find out if that William was a brother to Thomas Lebeter born about 1869 in Englnad and during the 1900 Census was living in Litchfield Ward 1, Montgomery, Illinois. They had a niece that was living with them, Iva Lebeter B 1876 in Indiana.
I need to find out who Iva's parents were, and who were Thomas's brothers and sisters (did they come to America too or stay in England?).

Pat,

My wife is a descendant of William Yowell. Her family lived in Litchfield, Montgomery County, IL.

According to my records, William Yowell was married two times. The first was to Rebecca Shields in 1831 with whom he had 3 children; I don't know exactly when Rebecca died. The second was to Eliza Truitt sometime in the late 1830s with whom he had 6 children. The oldest of the 6 was Rebecca Yowell (named after his first wife?) who was my wife's ggg grandmother.

William was born in Ohio about 1808. His family moved to Indiana, and was in Gallatin County KY by the time of the 1820 census. Carroll County was formed from Henry and Gallatin counties in the late 1830s. I'm assuming that William's family traveled down the Ohio river while making these moves.

William's father was Cornelius Yowell who was born in VA about 1784.

Do you have a record of William and Rebecca's marriage? If so would you please send me a copy.

Dick
