Hi Debra,

I was looking up our family tree, when I came across your message. Lebeter is such an unusual name, I thought there may be a conection. My name before I was married was Lebeter. I immigrated to Canada in 1954 with my parents and my brother. We came from the North of England, (Leeds, Yorkshire) Do you have that background? I really know very little about my fathers background beyond my grandmother. My father had 2 brothers and a sister, who have since died ( my father has also passed away) HIs brothers immigrated to what was Rhodesia and some of their family are living there. I also have a cousin in England and his family. Also an adopted cousin in South Africa. One of my cousins children is immigrating Australia and another one is looking to go there also. My fathers name was Leonard Lebeter and his fathers name was John Henry Lebeter (1182- ). I don't know if any of this information is any good to you. I would be interested in hearing from you. Pat P

I am doing research on Lebeters that came from England in 1870s. You can check out my tree if you wish. Thomas born 1869 and brother William born 1862 came to Illinois as children. I don't know their father's name, but thought it might be Moses. Does any of this sound familiar? I thought some of your tree may overlap mine. karenfedway@yahoo.com

P.S. Thomas married Gwennie, born in Ohio. William married Elnora Caldwell born in Bond, IL Many English Lebeters were coal miners and many who came to US also worked in West Virginia coal mines before or after moving to IL

There are so many Lebeters all over the world that immigrated from England. There are few Lebeters in the USA and most are related. They descend from a bunch of coal miners from Wales or Derbyshire, that ended up in Illinois mostly. They immigrated in 1874 and/or 1883. They mostly worked as coal miners in the US until mid 1900s.
