We are planning a trip to Keithsburg in Aug. My Mother's family lived in Keithsburg around 1910 through 1975. I am wondering if anyone still in Keithsburg knew them.
Grandmother: Pearl Garner
Grandfather: Bert Kinsey
Mother: Elizabeth Kinsey (born 1915 - graduated from Keithsburg High School in 1933)
Uncle: John Kinsey
Cousin: Lane Kinsey - ex-wife Donna, son Christopher
I have fond memories of summers in Keithsburg and would like to know if Donna and Christopher are still in the area? My Grandfather was a bridge tender on the Mississippi River in Keithsburg. I remember shells in the road with holes punched out for buttons that were made in the local button factory. We called the turn-off to Keithsburg the 'hard road'. The grade school had a metal fire escape which was a large tube. Lane and I would play in it until someone chased us off. There was a roller rink, a smoke house, Crow's gas station and a general store. I learned to ride my 2 wheeler on what we called the 'sand hill'. The Hickerson's lived next door (he was a doctor). We would put on plays in their back yard. Has it changed much?
