Am looking for GGP's. My Grandfather, Owen Eugene Madden, SR. was born in Harvard, IL. He married Margaret Ann Beaumaster and eventually settled in North Dakota (near Ypsilanti). Am trying to search back into prior generations but cannot locate Owen's parents (my GGP's) Any assistance would be helpful.

My GGrandfather was Thomas Madden who married Mary Ann Farnan in McHenry Co., IL 1851. I have no information on Thomas'parents or where he was from. I have quite a bit of info on Mary Ann--I know she immigrated to America with her mother Catherine Farnan in 1849 on the vessel "Niagara" and arrived NY February 1849. They were from Castleblayney, Ulster, Ireland. They settled in McHenry Co. Mary Ann and Thomas moved to California, then back to Harvard, McHenry Co., Ill. then on to Iowa. Thomas and Mary Ann both died in Iowa--near Elma, Chickasaw Co., Iowa. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Kathy Montelaro

A few years ago, I zeroxed the full listing of graves from St. Joseph's cemetary out of a book published by the McHenry Co, Genealogical society. It lists the following Maddens: Henry 1863-84, Raymond 1882-94, Edwrd 1872-1905, Lillian E. 1891-1976, Harvey A. 1880-1948, James R. 1861-1914, Father 1826-92, Mother 1850-1907, william 1876-1906, Raymond W. 1912-63, Jennie 1870-1937, Charles A. 1879-1946.

One of my ancestors is Cathrine Madden Loughlin 6/28/1809- 6/10/1889.

I am the granddaughter of Owen's daughter Margaret. I'm trying to build my family tree and I got stuck at her parents. Do you know the other siblings of Margaret and their birthdays? Also Owen's and Margaret Ann's birth and death dates?

Owen's daughter Margaret is my mother. The email thread below says Margaret Ann Madden but her name is actually Margaret Alice Madden. She was born in North Dakota in 1912. I don't think you have the right Owen and Margaret unless you are my niece of course, then you have the correct one! HA! Your email did not give your full name.

This is interesting... I'm not sure. My G'ma always talked about the orphanage she grew up in and that her dad's name was Owen and her brother that I knew named Uncle Bud who was actually Oscar. I never really looked into things b4, but I started looking into it after she died a few years ago and then today I actually did some searching and ur thing here came up. I recognize some photo's from my G'ma's house that I grew up in. Hmmmmm I'm Melisa Clauder daugher of Melanie Walker (Jones) grandaughter of Margaret Jones (Hansen

My Grandfather Owen Madden did not have a brother named Oscar (at least that I know of). He had a brother named Thomas Jr., James, John and a sister named Catherine (Kate). Owen was born in Harvard, Illinois in 1866, son of Thomas Madden Sr. and Mary Ann Farnan. Thomas and Mary Ann and their children moved to Iowa in 1876 and settled near Elma, Iowa. Owen married Margaret Ann Beaumaster in Iowa in 1893 and them moved to Stutsman County, ND in 1900.

Does this help?

I feel sooo lost. I was never told much, but I know my G'ma moved to Washington from North Dakota and married my Grandpa, Harold Jones, and built the house I grew up in in 1953, had 5 kids, (my aunt and uncles) whom I know all of. My G'ma Margaret had the brother "Bud" who's name was Oscar along with a couple of sisters she had mentioned, but I was a kid when we talked about these things. My G'ma DID say something just b4 she died about her name not being Margaret when she was born. She said it was Margot. I'm starting to think my whole family tree is a lie... Maybe I'm just confused. Do u know how I might find the truth? I don't know the first thing about digging this stuff up.

You can contact me at my email address off-site if you wish.

When I began my research I knew the names of my Grandparents and a bit of their history that I learned from my parents. My maternal and paternal Grandparents died when I was just a little one so I never really knew them.

When I began my research I only knew that my Father was of Norwegian descent and my Mother was Irish and German. No one knew where in Norway or Ireland and the family Bible said my Grandmother's parents were from Spartan, Germany (there is no Spartan, Germany!)

I began my research by collecting all the records I could get my hands on about my Grandparents--census records, birth records, death records, land records, and church records and these records lead me eventually to my Great Grandparents. If you have living aunts and uncles, interview them to see what new information can be gleened. I trace entire families because I always am able to develop further information that may be found on documents of a sibling that helps the entire effort.

I still have not been able to get my Irish line traced any further than my Great Grandparents. I know where they came from in Ireland but that's about it. But, this took years to develop!

Was your Grandmother's maiden name Hansen? If so then Margot is probably correct as that is a common Norwegian name. Do you know the approximate date of her birth and death?
