Thought I would share some of the history
and genealogy resources that I have found.
McHenry County is a county located in the U.S.
State of Illinois. Its county seat is Woodstock.
McHenry County was formed in 1836 out of Cook and LaSalle counties. The county was named for Major William McHenry.
McHenry County is one of the five collar counties of the
Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area.
There are also several important points of interest in the county including the Illinois Railway Museum and McHenry County Historical Museum in Union, the Old McHenry County Courthouse in Woodstock, Illinois.
The Northwest Herald, is the county's primary newspaper, serving the greater McHenry County area, and printed and published in Crystal Lake. The county is also served by the larger Chicago newspapers Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and the suburban-focused newspaper The Daily Herald.
