Hi again Dennis,

I only had the one Hannah (Sarah M) in my database, and no Bonifields, Castleberry's or Terwilligers. I do have a Jefferson W. Anderson, born April 3, 1851, but he is from a Bedford Co., TN family. (son of Joseph Anderson and Lucinda Green Wilson).

I doubt if we even come close to be connected unless you are in the Ragsdale, Bowman, or Robinson families but it's interesting to hear of another Anderson branch in the area. I did some brief checking on the parents of your Newton Anderson on Ancestry and they don't appear to be related to the Andersons of Massac/Pope/Johnson Counties, IL.

Linda

No, I descend from Isabella B Hannah b abt 1853 who married June 17, 1877 Jefferson A Anderson b 1852 Illnois who was the son of Newton Anderson b abt 1830 Illinois and Nancy Castleberry who was born abt 1832 in Kentucky.

Jefferson A Anderson was Isabella's 3rd husband and I descend from her 2nd marriage to Samuel Jackson Bonifield.
Isabella "Biddy" Hannah had 2 children with Samuel Jackson Bonifield; Charles M Bonifield b abt 1872 and Mattie May Bonifield b abt 1874.

Isabella was married to Levi Terwilliger before marrying Samuel Jackson Bonifield. Her parents were James Hanna b 1813 Ala and Mary ? who was born about 1815 TN. I believe James Hanna's father was a James Hanna from Londonderry, Ireland but have no proof. I know there is a will from Madison Co, Ala 1821, but I have never seen it.

I have the Bonifields line from the "Descendants of Gregory Bonifield", but I don't know much more about the Hanna(h)s or the Andersons.

Do you know Sarah M Hannah's ancestry? Are we related in some way?

Thanks for responding!

I look forward to hearing from you!

-Dennis

I don't descend from them but they married into a couple of my families.

Do you descend from David Files Anderson and Sarah M. Hannah? Their son, George W.
Rhoda Annable Forth, widow of John Forth, married William Sessions April 14, 1851 in Wayne Co., IL. She had 2 children, John & Mary. They moved to Texas in 1856. They had Martha, Jeremiah Bradford, James Monroe, Sarah, M.A.M.E., and then twins with who she died in childbirth. This was Dec. 25, 1867. One twin died at birth and is buried with Rhoda, the other twin about a month later. They are all buried in the Nelson Cemetery, Parker County, Texas with William Sessions. I don't know if my mother has any other information on the Forths, but I can look. We are from William and his first wife, Eliza Robinson.

Morse Cemetery + John P. Morse & Mary E. Walker family

Has the Morse Cemetery been indexed or inventoried? Would like to verify that 2 children of John P. Morse & Mary E. Walker are buried in Morse Cemetery.

1st child - William J. Morse b. 8 Aug 1872 - died 24 Feb 1873 - buried in Morse Cemetery.

Am also looking for death information on John P. Morse - when and where? Probably before 1906 as wife, Mary E. Walker Morse came to Butte Co. California along with 2nd child, Charles Richard Morse b. 1874 in New Columbia. Charles had married Maude Temple Harlan 7 Apr 1897 in New Columbia but she died 1906 in Cedar Co. Missouri.

3rd child of John P. Morse & Mary E. Walker is James A. Morse born abt 1876 in Massac Co. I'm assuming he died about 1900 - when and where? Is he also buried in Morse Cemetery? Did he marry?

4th and last child - is unknown gender and name born 16 Dec. 1877 and died 17 Dec. 1877 in Massac Co. - buried in Morse Cemetery. I'd like to know if child had a name and what gender it was.

John P. (Pennington?) Morse is son of Ulysses C. Morse and Delany (Lena) Smith. Mary Walker is dau. of William Harrison Walker & Marinda Jane McHenry.

If anyone knows of this family, I'd really appreciate exchanging information.

Marti

Just did a quick search and found the family in the 1900 1910 and 1920 Census Massac County Benton Pct. In the 1920 Census it lists Levi age 22 and Grace age 17 as single, Indiana (sp Indean) widowed. The Illinois Statewide Marraige Index only goes to 1900. For marraiges after this you will probably have to contact the Massac County Clerks office. You may try visiting the Massac County Genealogy Society Web site. It's been a while since I visited the site but there may be someone there to help you. The address is:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilmcgs/

Don

Hi,
I was wondering if your cemetery lists happens to indicate what plot the deceased in buried in. My Great Grandfather, George W Wade and his second wife, Matilda, are listed as being buried in Anderson Cemetery. Two years ago, I made a trip to Metropolis and Joppa to do some family research. I went out and walked the cemetery, but couldn't find their headstones. There were a lot of severely weathered and broken headstones and I didn't have the time to try and see if I could decipher any of the names on the weathered ones.

I am planning a trip back to Massac county this summer and am trying to be a little more prepared. If your cemetery list had plot numbers, that would really help me out.

I traced this thread back to its beginning (I think). The Massac County Coroner's Book was listed as a reference. If that book is still available, would it be possible to look up a Lorena Wade. She committed suicide by taking rat poison. She lived in Boaz. I have an obituary, but do not have the paper it is from or the year it happened. I do believe there is a reference to March as the month. I do have a contact, that is a relative of Lorena Wade's boyfriend at the time. She says the suicide had to have happened in 1900 or before, since the relative was married sometime in 1900.

I do know the suicide happened in Boaz and I believe she was between 17 and 21 years old. I cannot find any birth or death certificate for her or any burial record. Since it was a suicide, I am hoping that something would appear in the Coroner's reports.

Thank you for the help.

Allan Wade (Phoenix, AZ)
Thank you for looking that up. If you are familiar with the cemetery, could you refresh my memory about the layout (North & South sides)? I was there almost 3 years ago, at the end of July. The heat, humidity, and mosquitoes have taken a toll on my recollection of how the cemetery exactly looked. I remember driving down a road (from where the old Boaz was located, I think). The church was on the left side of the road at the end and I believe the lady that was showing me around said the section next to the church (East Side) was the "New" Section, and the "Old" section was on the right side of the road. I believe I recall a small road, right before the church, that that turns in to the "Old" section (West?). Is this the road you are referring to? I guess It would be better to ask it another way. If I am standing with my back to the church, looking across the road that leads to the church, is the North side to my left (I recall that end of the cemetery is kind of at the bottom of a hill). If it is, I was looking in the wrong place for George Wade. I was searching the area to the right. I have attached a crude map of what I remember. Thank you again for all your help. Allan

George W. Wade , son of John and Mary is buried on the North side. The cemetery is in three sections, The east side is next to the church, the West side is split by the road, the left side of the road is called the north side and the stones on the right are called the south side. Well i'm confused !! Hope this helps. I also checked my other books and had a lot of Wades but none with your names. The only Wade in the only Coroners book I have at this time was a Louis Wade.

I recently became involved in geneology. In the past week, I learned that I had an aunt that I was unaware of. Her name was Eulalia Flanagan and my grandmother was Alice Thrift. My father was the younger brother of Eulalia and Hazel Flanagan. My father, Louis H. (I.O.) Flanagan joined the Army Air Corp. prior the WW2 and left home at an early age. My brother's name is Patrick Dale Flanagan and I am Gary Wayne Flanagan. When my father retired in 1968 we visited Hazel in Metroplis at the 206 9th street residence. In 1968, our family decided the live in Sacramento, California instead of returning the Il. Both Hazel and my parents passed away in the 1990s. In reading these posts, I have learned so much but now, more questions remain. I need to look into ihis incarceration of my grandfather. This may be the reason my father left home at such a young age. I also need to connect the McGilley, Thrift and Hagey side of my family. Any help would be apprecieated.

Hi Richard,
I am sorry I did not get back with you earlier. I did not see your reply from 2008) and have not been back to the Massac board in a while. I appreciate all your information and enjoyed reading about the Thrift/Flanagan families. Since my grandpa and Eulalia Flanagan were married for a short time before she passed away, and they never had children, I do not have much to contribute to the Family tree, but I have learned a lot from your site! Thanks for sharing.
Lisa

I would appreciate a lookup for John McMullen, he is living as of 1900, date of birth is 1849, Ohio, His daughters are Grace, Kate and son is Jo Mears Mcmullen.

If you could lookup his mother, Ann Thomas McMullen Moris, born Ohio, about 1827. Both families are living in Brooklyn, Massac County.
Thank You
Connie Kindle
