HARTEL may well have been originally spelled
HARTL... and Louis was perhaps Aloisija or
Alois.
I am wondering perhaps both families came from Slavonia region of Croatia rather than Louis coming from Croatia. These names would appear to have Bohemian roots and Slavonia region area around Daruvar has Czech settlements that go back a few hundred years. DONAT and
HARTL are found there today.
How do you know that Louis arrived 1899?
