I am looking for any information on the Rodgers and Alderson families who moved to Marion County, IL from Maury County, TN between 1856 and 1857. I don't have much to go on other than census and other local records, and a vague family story about one of the Rodgers descendents accidently killing a man (possibly in a work accident), and leaving town quickly with his family to avoid possible retribution. They were said to have gone to Illinois. I have no idea how much, if any of this story is true, but I do know that several Rodgers and Aldersons left that area and ended up in Marion County. I narrowed down the years by looking at the State of Birth of young children in the 1860 census.

The people I have particular interest in are my 3G Grandparents Jesse Rodgers (abt 1794-unknown) and his wife Elizabeth Alderson (1802- unknown), my 2G Grandparents Robert M (or R M) Rodgers (abt 1832-unknown) and his wife Sarah Ashworth (1830-unknown), and their son William I Rodgers (1867-1930), who is my Great Grandfather. I am not sure what happened to them, but while they all show up in the 1870 Marion County census, Robert is nowhere to be found in 1880 and William is living in Obion County, TN and working on a farm at age 15. I haven't been able to find any death records for Robert or Sarah. He would have been 48 and her 50, so they would have died a little on the young side if that's what happened.

Like I said, I can't find much beyond what I've put here. I don't have death or burial records for anyone before William. I also can't find any links of substance before Jesse. His dates line up with a man from Fines Creek, NC with a Rogers line that goes WAY back, but I have found others who may be more likely fits for that man. Also, there were several other Rodgers who don't trace back to NC that show up around Jesse in the 1850 Maury Co census. However, with the more limited census information from 1840 and before, going back further definitively without finding someone with family records is close to impossible.
