Your welcome - it was just a lucky find on Charles Bernaix burial location. I knew that both cemeteries are next to each other and thought I'd check. I'm going to go back to the library and re-check to see if I over looked an obit on Charles.
Other obits on the Bernaix family are located at the Belleville Public Library. I asked Doug Ehlers to post a message on the St. Clair Co. message board, if no one replies I'll run up there in a couple of weeks to make copies.
Bernaix names are:
BERNAIX BETTY S. 65 7/30/2000 2B 2
BERNAIX DONALD 64 7/2/1998 4B 6
BERNAIX HELEN 93 11/11/2000 2B 1
BERNAIX IRMA G. 83 8/1/1997 4B 5
BERNAIX JESSIE 87 7/13/1998 2B 1
BERNAIX JULIA MARIE 73 8/20/1996 4B 2
BERNAIX OLIVE E. 78 12/21/1999 4B 1
BERNAIX, SR. CHARLES L. 87 5/17/1994 4B 4
*info from the St. Clair Co. Genealogical Society

Your welcome! I'll check the newspapers prior to 1909 to see if it contains information on the class of 1908 (and before to be on the safe side)
The class names were mentioned in the 1909 GC newspaper, I have attached it where you can view their names.
I was told today by a lady at the library that the school where your grandmother attended will be torn down. Several years ago the local hospital purchased it and re-named it the Wellness Center. If you would like I will take a photo of it (as it is now) and will make a copy of the school photo from the 1910 year book.

Thank you so much for helping me. It is a strong possibility that she graduated in 1908 although she might have had a 1909 autograph book. She graduated from Ouachita Baptist College in 1912--I have commencement and yearbook proving this--and with a proven double degree-music and math. That would be only three years in college if she did not graduate from high school until 1909. I now have a line drawing of the Granite City High School that was being used at that time--I understand the building is still standing. You said you saw the list of graduates in 1909--was the list for 1908 close by?

Judy - your grandmother was not mentioned as part of the graduating class of 1909. The earliest year book the library had was for 1910 and then 1911. I checked through both of them and her name was not listed in either one. I'm not giving up just yet, I will check at the high school to see what class photos are there and where I might find a list of earlier GC graduates. Vicki
I am need of some information on a Finley B. Moore who died on Apr 18, 1876 in Upper Alton, Il. We have found the grave site in the Upper Alton Cemetery but have not been able to find any other information, like orbit, death records, etc., etc. His body was handled by Streeper Funeral Home who was also a neighbor of his. Would appreciate any information that you could find. I am doing research on Moore, Brown, Crawford, Whiteside, Patterson, lines. You may reach me at j.dphillips@comcast.net

Take Care and Thank you,

Jack Phillips

Margaret Jolan MAYLATH Green (1918-2009) just passed away in Indianapolis. She was a daughter of Emil & Rosie MAYLATH and born in Granite City. Emil stated on his WWII draft registration the "name and address of person who will always know your address" was Edward MAYLATH in Granite City. Possibly Emil was a brother of Edward. Emil was born 10 Oct 1895 in Hungary. His wife Rosie was also Hungarian.

That's all the info I have. I am not related and do not know the family. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis with services by Shirley Brothers.

I live in North Carolina, but last fall I visited Gullick Cemetery in Highland and took pictures of Lacquement, LeDouble & Nattier headstones. I also took pictures of the entry to the cemetery. Would any of these be of interest to you?

Linda
I lived two doors down from Buster Workman when I was little and I can tell you it was not a castle and there was no moat. The house is located in Caseyville on the east side of Caseyville Rd just south of S. Morrison. (South of Collinsville High School)I live in Arizona now but I remember the house being red brick and sitting atop a grassy hill. The property was surrounded with a white rail fence (sorry, no moat). I used to pet and feed his horses through the fense. I remember my favorite was a white horse. Anyway, hope this helps.
