Ideas for searching in Madison Co.

I'm looking for ideas on how I can search in Madison Co. in the 1840s. My ancestors (John Gracey & Elizabeth Brown) were married in February of 1840 and moved to Hancock Co. where they died. I'm looking for Elizabeth's family. I believe her brother's name was Simon. I'm just wondering if anyone as any ideas what I should look for or what's available in Madison Co. If I make the long trip down there or pay a professional I need to know what to look for!

Thank you!

I will try to help. First off you can send for
their marriage license at the County Clerk's office.
It is $5. However, some licenses were not returned
so it is possible they don't have it. If not, they
will return your money. I really don't know what else
you are looking for here. When did they live here?

Ancestry has the Edwardsville Intelligencer newspaper files available for searching. When searching historical records click on newspapers, then expand to the whole collection and highlight the Edw Int. I have found amazing stuff about my Madison County relatives -- everything from my grandmother giving a talk about mental health and the homemaker to times when my family went back to Troy to visit. Also found obituaries for many of my kin. I hope you find it helpful.
