I got this paper from my cousin Denise (thankyou Denise so much) as she got the civil war records of our common 2x ggf . It touched my heart that this woman cared for my 2x GGF's first wife Elizabeth Gray Williams until she died. Very touching to me is that she closed Elizabeth eyes when she passed away on December 24th, 1862. The woman while distantly related to me, is one of your GGM's her name on the paper is Lucretia Vinyard. After much research for the last 2 days (I wanted to know more about this very kind spirit) I know her to be Lucretia Pyles Gullet Vinyard. I now know a bit about her, but I wish to know more. I would love to have a photo of her if you or anyone have one. Lucretia didnt die until 1912 so I hope that someone may have a picture of her.
At the time Lucretia was caring for Elizabeth (1862) she was still married to her first husband Jacob Gullet and had a couple of children.
They had for some reason moved from pemiscot county MO, to New Madrid MO, Lucretia was born in Ohio, but her family had moved to hardin Co illinois. I do not know if Jacob died in MO, or survived to make the more to Illinois with Lucretia. I am possitive that my GGF James Charles Williams followed them/ her to hardin co ill. MY GGF 's sister would later move to hardin co her name is Martha Williams, who married Pinkney. The hand written part of the document reads...
That she is well aquainted with the claimant and also well aquainted with her late husband James C Williams in his lifetime. That she was also well aquainted with soldiers first wife. died at New Madrid Missouri December 24th, 1862. Affiant lived at New Madrid Missouri at the time and waited on Mrs. Williams ?????? in her last sickness closed her eyes after death and helped to dress her Lucretia Vinyard
this doc is signed by her as they did not use the mark
