The cemetery that started with a "V" is the Vaughn Cemetery which is located on Vaughn Hill in Wood River just south of the Vaughn Hill Church of Christ. The Mehlville Cemetery is located out in Godfrey in the area which was referred to in the old days as Mehlville and is associated with the church next to it (if it's still active). They are no way one and the same. Before you uncle dies you better make sure which cemetery is the one you need. I don't recall any recent (within the past 20 to 30 years) burials being at Vaughn Cemetery, but do believe that Mehlville has had some. As far as I know neither cemetery has been touched for any type of road construction. There was a possibility of Vaughn Cemetery being affected for the I-255 extension from IL 143 up to IL 140 but IDOT decided to go west of the highway rather than to the east. Vaughn Cemetery is under state law protection because of its historical past and the burial of a Revoluntionary War veteran there.
