Capt. Moore's 90th
Birthday Celebrated
The ninetieth anniversary of Captain
Troy
Moore, of
Upper Alton,
was observed yesterday and yesterday
evening at his home in
UpperAlton with the singing of old. songs
and telling of old stories. A large
number of friends visited the home
last night and were entertained.
Supper was served. Among those
present who were closely connected
with tho

Herman
Finley Moore. 78 died
at his home, 1720
Washington Ave,
of gunshot wound
apparently self-inflicted.
Moore, who was born in
Alton,
Dec 10,1875, and had resided here
all of his life, was a member of a
well known
Upper Alton family.
HP made his home with two
cousins, Miss
Cornelia Mooreand Miss Eva
Moore.
According to n report made to
police. Moore had been suffering
from falling eyesight, caused by
cataracts, and Sunday was atemptlng
to read a newspaper
when he apparently became despondent
over his afflication and
upon an impulse shot himself.
His cousins were working outside
the house at time the gun
was discharged and they heard
no report. The first they knew of
the tragedy was when they came
into the room where
Moore was
seated and found him dead.
Moore had worked at
StandardOil Co., a number of years ago.
beginning work there when the
refinery at Wood River was put
into operation and for nearly 30
years had been employed by the
Streeper Funeral home as a
driver.
He had been forced to discontinue
work about three years ago
because of failing eyesight.
Surviving are a brother, William,
of St. Louis, and his cousins,
Misses
Cornelia and Eva,
and Mrs. Julius Brown.
The body Is at
Streeper funeral
home where friends may call after
4 p. m. Tuesday. Rites will be
conducted at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday
at the funeral home. Burial
will be In
Upper Alton cemetery.

QuinnHolds Two Inquests
Two inquests were conducted
Wednesday evening by
Deputy CarsonQuinn at the Morrow-Quinn
mortuary. Under the findings of the
juries, the death of William
Sauerwein.
78, of Fosterburg, was found
to have been due to a coronary occlusion;
that of Herman F. Moore
of 1720
Washington Ave., found
dead in his home Sunday, was
found to have been a suicide.
