Amos Pruitt who married Susannah Parker has been a problem for me too. My gr-gr-gr-grandfather was Amos but the Amos who was born in 1807 to James Pruitt and his first wife who has yet to be identified by name (supposedly her name was Mary but no records can be found to back this claim but it is known that his second wife was Mary 'Polly' Costley).

I've been trying to determine who Amos (your Amos) belongs to. I can't help but think it's someone who is a grandson of Martin Pruitt who settled in what is now East Alton, Madison, IL in 1806. Some of his grandsons moved to Macoupin with some living in the Gillespie area which happens to be the area where Amos and Susannah lived.

Two of Martin's sons (Isaac and Abraham) are problems as far as I'm concerned. Abraham had several sons for which I have not been able to find information such as marriage and their children if such information exists. Isaac on the other hand has a few children for which the descending lines are know but there are possibly three children (1 male and 2 females) which no names are known. I believe that your Amos is possibly a grandson to Isaac through his unknown son.

In 1860 Amos was living with the Lewis W Link family. This may sound a little strange but the Pruitt's were known to keep their orphaned family members with family where possible. Lewis W Link was the son of John Bell Link and Cassandra Pruitt who was the daughter of Isaac Pruitt. I can't help but think that Lewis took his cousin's child to keep him with family.

For the past few years I have not been working and thus trips to various places for research were curtailed. I just started back to work and in the spring I hope to make a visit to Greene Co and Macoupin Co IL to do further research on the Pruitt families, hopefully to learn more about those for whom I need more information and will find answers to questions which not only I but others have. I grew up in southern Macoupin Co IL and know that part of IL pretty well. I have my father to thank for his backroads travel whenever possible to show places of interest to the his side of the family. I didn't think much as a child but retained a lot of it and have used it in my research.

Hopefully I'll find the key data in pinpointing who Amos belonged so that I can put his family into my regular file. I'll keep you abreast as to any findings.
