According to
Decatur newspaper articles there was a proprietor at the City Hotel named George W. Sackett from approx. August 1890 to August 1891 or later. An employee of the hotel committed suicide and left George a love note. According to the articles, George drank too much, let his wife do the work and was arrested for abusing her. I didn't find anything to prove this was your ancestor.
Asa
Sackett, son of G.W.,married in 1886 and lived in
Macon County. John N. Sackett also married in
Macon County in 1890. According to an article in the July 25, 1919 edition of the
Decatur Review, their brother William
Sackett was killed in
Texas by a boy he had taken to raise. It says William left Blue
Mound in 1904. Another article mentions that
Asa was going to visit his sister, Mrs. Harvey
Myers in Barry, IL.
According to the IL State Archives, there was a George
Sackett who married Mary
Bailey on June 18, 1848 in
Macon County. I'm not sure how, or if they were related to your
Sackett ancestors.
I'm not related. Hope this information helps. - Pam
