My grandfather was Joseph Lane DeWitt b 5 Sept 1897 in Willow Hill, Illinois, d 11 Dec 1962 in Queretaro Mexico, m Bertha May Reed 11 Sept 1918 (b 16 March 1896 in Syracuse Nebraska, d 6 Feb 1999 in Cloudcroft NM); they are both buried in Ebony Grove cemetery in Mercedes, Texas, near where my grandfather practiced medicine. He was the only doctor for the region for many years.

I am looking for more information about his father, George Washington DeWitt. At least I think that is his name. Our information lists him as b 10 Oct 1826 in Elmira NY and d 15 April 1908 in Lebanon MO, m Mary Ann Lloyd 10 Oct 1879. However, because finding information is so elusive, and because of family stories of multiple families, I wonder if his name, date of birth and date of death and location are correct.

The story is that, Mary Ann Lloyd, my great-grandmother, was the second wife of GW DeWitt, and that he had another family previous to Mary's. He left Mary Ann Lloyd DeWitt with five sons (Clinton, Chelsea, Clyde, Lloyd, and Joseph), and moved on to marry another younger woman and have another family. I haven't been able to find out information about the other families, nor him, so I am questioning our information about him.

On a sad note, my brother inherited the DeWitt heart defect, and like Chelsea C DeWitt, my brother died at age 47. God forbid that should ever happen to anyone.

In my father's line, we have traced back to England in the 1400's, and have tied to the Mayflower. Captain Myles Standish is my 10th Great Grandfather. :)

If you can help me find more information about G.W. DeWitt, or Mary Ann Lloyd, it would be greatly appreciated.
