Smith families are hard to trace, especially as I live in Oklahoma! I have a whole bunch of Smith relatives buried in the Ivanhoe cemetery in IL. It leads me to believe that there MUST still be many 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins alive in that Chicago, Waukegan, Lake county area possibly that I'm related to. I'm hoping there are others there searching for us also!
Eber Holden Smith died in Ivanhoe in 1898, along with his wife, Sarah Ann Hayes in 1892. They had 7 children, most died in Lake county.
Thomas Byron Smith died in 1916 in Waukegan, and his Alma Ester Handy wife died in 1920 there! They had 8 children who died around the Waukegan area, except one. When Thomas brought his family to Oklahoma, Lester died in western OK in Carmen. Over 100 years later, I have found his grave. After Lester's death, Thomas took his family back to IL. where he started. No cause for Lester's death here in 1902 at this time. Could have been Indians, fever, sickness, drought. It's a big mystery for me!
So based on all this, I can't help but wonder where all my Smith relatives are now living. I would really love to contact someone else interested in the Smith genealogy. If anyone knows of any Smith research or books in the IL area, please let me know ASAP. Thanks

Hello, I am not related to this family, but I did do a little research for you.

Minnie Alice Davis appears on the 1880 Census.
Her father is listed as Samuel T Davis born Abt. 1845 in PA. Her mother is listed as Mary Davis born Abt. 1845 in PA. Also listed are two siblings: Nettie J Davis born Abt.1868 in Illinois and Theodore D Davis born Abt. 1874 in Kansas. I found a marriage record for Nettie. She married a W C Reeder. There is a death certificate for Nettie Louis Reeder that indicates she died Aug. 19, 1924 and that her parents were Samuel Davis and Mary E Goehring.
I found the 1880 census at Ancestry.com and the other information at FamilySearch.org which is a free site.

Yes, we have been watching on the news. We are pretty lucky here in Oregon our weather is fairly passive. We get some really strong wind storms on the coast during the winter months. Thank you for looking to see if there is an obit. I am thinking Patrick my have actually came to the United States with his parents, just have not prove it yet. Keep warm and lets hope the snow does not keep everyone in lock down for to long.
I had planed on it today but we were slammed with a snow storm yesterday into late last night that dumped 9.5" of snow in my area. I will try to get it today once my streets are clear.

My relative, Charles F. Frank, lived in the railroad mens home between 1935 and 1940 when he died (reportedly) in Highland Park. He is buried in the Mooney Cemetery. He had been born in Crawford County, Ohio, on 24 Feb. 1880 and lived much of his life in Marion County, Ohio. He was a lifelong railroad employee and worked for the Erie Railroad much of his life. He was a member of the 35th B.R.T.
First, who maintains the records for the Mooney Cemetery in Lake county? I know from the queries who apparently physically maintains the cemetery, but who maintains the records for the Mooney Cemetery in Lake county?
Second, did an obituary appear in the local Highland Park newspaper for the death of a Charles Frederick Frank, who died 10 February 1940? He was buried in the Mooney Cemetery on the 12th.
Finally, do any records exist for the Railroad Man's Home there in Highland Park for the time around 1940?

John

I used to call Dorothy Fulfs at least once a month. My husband and I stopped into visit with her before her death. She helped me tremendously with my research and identifying photographs.

If you are on Facebook I have a group for those interested in Slovenian Genealogy. In fact we were just discussing the Merlak line.
You're welcome :-) and it was my pleasure. I like researching for some of the markers I photograph especially when there is a whole family in the same cemetery. It is so interesting and I love to be able to help those who are searching find their families and hope that the information I post is helpful to them. www.findagrave.com has help me and many others find family and fill in the blanks on our trees. I am happy that you are helping your friend complete his tree (or at least fill in a lot of blanks) I hope it will help you further in your research for him. :-)

Kathy

Hello Kathy, Thank you so much for you time and assistance. It great the all the notes I have from Foster fit! His memory of family and places is awesome! The Mayme name fit he thought it to be a nick name but not sure of that now. The spelling of the last name sounds like it did when he was telling me and your right they may have miss read the cursive K for an R either way every thing fit right down to the place of residence. Thank you again for all to do to help so many!

There are two census with Mary married to Robert and in both of them the last name is spelled differently. One with an R and one with a K. The one 1920 it is spelled with an R and in 1930 it is with a K. A lot of the times it is just the transcriber typing in what they feel it is and the abritrator changing it as they see it dfferently and other times it's the census taker writing it down wrong.

Here is my note that I have on his memorial: In a family search, there is a tree that shows daughter, Mary M Kundinger, died on 21 April 1953 and she is also shown as Rundinger and as Mayme.

So he is correct on that! She was Patrick's oldest child. I am glad that it was of some help to you.

Kathy
