I sent this to the list but also wanted in on the board site. Sorry for any duplication.
My great great grandparents John W. Matthews, a lake county magistrate,
(1832-1919) and Anna Elizabeth Barker (1839-1926) are buried in St. Mary Cemetery, Lake Forest, Lake County, Illinois. Their only son, my great grandfather William John Matthews (1860-1933) moved to Wood County Wisconsin between 1902 and 1904. Their six (6) daughters stayed in the area. They
were:
Anna Matthews (1858-1956) married John Rogers (1862- abt 1930)
Carrie M. Matthews (1864-1956) married John Rogers (1862-abt 1930)
Note: marriages were 1879 & 1881 so there may be a mistake here unless one sister divorced and the other married him.unlikely but listed this way in father's obit.
Agnes Matthews (1866-1918) married Melvin McKernan (1865-1943)
Jennie Matthews (1870-????) married John Carey (1867-????)
Frances Matthews (1877-????) married Thomas A. McClory (1877-????)
Gertrude Bernese Matthews (1878-1911) married Michael J. Hart (1876-1909)
The Harts are buried with John and Anna Matthews.
There was a serious issue (legal suit) over John W. Matthews' will after his wife's death, so I'm sure some of the family was estranged. A granddaughter
(1907-1971) sued her aunts, uncle, cousins, and executor (uncle) to break the will in October of 1927. I have copies of newspaper clippings so don't think I'm airing too much dirty laundry. I believe the will was broken.
I am interested in connecting with any family members in the area.
Also, John W. Matthews lived at 307 McKinley Road, Lake Forest, Illinois when he died, but I could not find that address. 307 McKinley seemed to be where a major intersection is today. Any help here would be appreciated, too. I will be in the area over Thanksgiving 2007.
