Meehan's Settlement

Surnames: MORAN
I'm still trying to find my Dominick and Honora MORAN. However, was thinking about something I'd read. They lived in Shields Township, but where they lived specifically, was called Meehan's Settlement.

And I'm so mad at myself for not writing down something I'd read on line about a town or place which was spelled differently than Meehan's, but in my mind, I thought maybe the enunciation was the same. Is anyone familiar with that name in Ireland?

I know my MORAN's were one of the first to settle in this area, but probably not the first. I'm wondering what thoughts some of you may have on this. For instance, was the name Meehan probably adopted because the most influencial person in the area was from that place in Ireland? Maybe the neighbors got together and decided most where from that area? Does the name Meehan mean anything in particular?

Any ideas anyone has would be most appreciated. Thanks,
Barbara
