yes that is the one at Clinton, co. However, the one I have went to montana. JOHN d MD MEYER AT gALENA and JOHN B. LIVED in Montana. I think though they are the same person. Daughter md Garrison of Union Iowa. Now
Garrison changed his name after civil war to Wilson and did live at Mo. But not sure about ties back. It was suggested this fehring came from Ohio.

Now there is an interesting thing to me anyway. a mary Fehreing owned Land at Highland, Greene county, Iowa. It was swamp land and there was a court case with the railroad over title for a few years. I have wondered about these Fehring in clinton by Jackson co. cause My Meyer and a few others, esp Molleman lived at Tete des Morts. Schenk, schoop or Michael opperated a Ferry at Jackson county Iowa

But nothing further yet shown. I believe a henry was married to Schulte or similar and his wife died. He took her body somewhere to be buried......and did he remarry?

Fairfeld Township in Jackson County was next to Waterford Township in Clinton County.
Henrich and Anna Gertude (Lampe) Fehring were living in Fairfield Township, Jackson County, in the 1860 census. Henrich was born in 1826 and Gertrud in 1838. Henrich immigrated in 1859. In the 1870 and 1880 census they are living in Waterford Township, Clinton County. Henry and Mary Fehring, married to Henry Nurre, were brother and sister. Henry and Gertrud are buried at Sugar Creek as is Henry and Mary’s father Lucas Fehring.
Their children were: Henry, Catherine, Louis, Anton, Peter, Johann, Maria Adelheid (Alice), and Maria Katherine (Mary).

Catherine Fehrinng married Herman Assenmacher, son of Nicholas. Alice Fehring married Matt Borman, son of August. Both of these families moved to Missouri. Census records say the rest of the children also moved to Missouri.
I am wondering if he might be the brother of our William Henry Bergmann born in the Kingdom of Wenden, Hannover Germany. (Wilhelm Heinrich Bergmann) came to the States with his brother Frederick. They left from Bremen. It was reported that they first lived in Cinncinati but William moved at some point to St. Joseph, MO. His daughter Dorothea Maria was my mother's grandmother. She married Clarence Erasmus Saunders and they had my grandmother Katherine Cleota Saunders. Frederick never lived in St. Joseph, so perhaps he moved from Cinncinati to Illinois.

The Roberts family were in the First Fleet to Australia and I live in Australia. I am interested how you know the name of Peter's (born 1553)wife Elizabeth Bolitho?? With no marriage and no mothers name on records where did you get the information on her name. Also I am wondering if you have any wills related to my ancestors? I greatly appreciate all the work you have done on this line. Thanks for sharing it.
Cheers from Australia.

Narissa Phelps

Hi to any/all in this thread who may still respond after 10 yrs.
I have been researching a lot lately, and just realized I am distantly related to the Hillards, Michelets, etc. I have at least one, maybe 2 relatives who are married into these families. I am not sure about all her ancestry, but I have that Antoine Michelet married Jeanne Feller, and her father was Jean Feller. However, I do know much more ancestry of Catherine Feller(1779), who married Jean Michelet(1751). I then have Catherine's ancestry back to Jacob Feller(b. abt 1620. I expect someone here might be interested. Thru this ancestry, I would be related distantly to any descendants of the Hillard & Michelet family. I have a lot of them on my tree already.
Bill Feller

There are still Birkbecks in the Galena area. One family lived in Council Hill north of Galena. My family, Leekley, married into the Birkbeck family. This group were farmers, lead miners, and Primitive Methodists all from Durham Co. They are buried at Grant Hill Cemetery on Council Hill.

By any chance you know of any children of your Birkbecks? I have Mary Ann Birbeck m. to Barraclough, marriage says her father was William. She was b. in Horton according to census, but as you know that isn't always accurate. I thought your William was a good match because of his wifes name as Mary Ann and their location. Thank you, Maxine Meloche

I am searching for a death record and obituary for John Driscoll who was born in Ireland about 1830. He married Ellen Daily in Jo Daviess Co. in 1862. I found the couple in that county on the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census records. I did not find John in 1910 and presume he died between 1900 and 1910. In 1880 and 1900, they were in Galena while in 1870, they were in Scales Mound. I presume he must have died in Galena.

I think there may be a relationship to the Driscoll family who settled in New Orleans.

Thank you.

Please forgive me for intruding here, but I have an obituary and some other information regarding Josiah Conlee, and probably also an obituary of Richard Wood, and church records which show them in these parts of Illinois, along with alot of other info. I'm not related, but have a library full of church records with a focus on Illinois. Limited on time to do research; but did quite a bit of work this summer in hope of doing some restoration in that area, from which I've been prevented so far.

Robert

Wondering if you found any info for your old question posted here. I noticed in 1850 according to the Census my 5th great grandfather Richard Wood was with the Conlee family in East Fork (he normally lived in Morgan County with Hester Wells Conlee Wood) along with someone I am assuming was his older brother Hezekiah. I assume he must have been helping out his Stepson Josiah Conlee at the time of the census.

I am looking for information about Angeline Gillman, wife of Moses Gillman. I have been unable to locate her maiden name. She was born in New York, possibly Oneida County, about 1821, and married (1st) about 1842 Albert Hall. He died at sea in 1853 and she married (2nd) Moses Gillman, who was born in either Maine or New Hampshire about 1821.

Angeline and Albert Hall had three children:

i. Charles V. Hall, 1844-1914
ii. Frances Virginia Hall, 1848-1922, m. Frederick N. Frentress
iii. Henry Asbury Hall, 1851-?

Angeline and Moses Gillman did not have any children that I know of.

Does anyone know where I could find death records of Angeline or Moses Gillman that might help me find Angeline's parents?

I'm doing research for a descendant of Henry Asbury Hall.

Thanks,
Nancy Rutman

I am also a descendent of Mary McPhillips, daughter of Felix and Elizabeth. I have a Powers Family Bible in my possession that was Mary and James Powers'. I also have a Powers/McPhillips family tree form the 1960's. I am having trouble tracing anybody back In Ireland. Any suggestions or help on getting ancestors beyond Felix would be appreciated.

Jennifer Holland Hinton

I'm curious if anyone in your May line has taken the DNA test to determine your ethnic origins.

We're trying to nail down our May ancestor who Married a Margaret and came to Illinois about 1824-25 but died before 1841 leaving Margaret and a whole bunch of kids.

There is an Albert G May that purchased land through the Shawneetown land office about 1833.

No! I have not seen the 1855 Illinois census. This listing is similar to the 1850 one, except, as you say Caroline and also Harriet. I am wondering if they listed Caroline instead of Clara. I know. They were married in 1858, but perhaps she was caring for Sarah, and continued to live there. Also Harriet was born in 1853, supposedly to Clara. I am sure that this citation that you have found is the same family, with the spouses name incorrect. That no longer surprises me, for I have seen it again and again! You say that I should contact the genealogy section at the library? Previously, they did send me the obituarie of William and Harriet. It sure wouldn't hurt asking. Thanks for your help.
Peg

Have you seen the 1855 Illinois census?

Could be a total coincidence but in Township 28 of Jo Daviess County there is a listing:

Davis, Wm
Caroline
William
Mary Anne
George W
James
Harriet

Obviously the census taker had to mangle the wife's name if it is Sarah.

The children are listed in descending ages, and it seems like there were enough similarities that I mention this just in case!

You could also try calling the genealogy section of the Galena library. Maybe they can find something in an index or newspaper?

Good luck!
