I haven't posted anything in a while and I thought maybe I would catch some new people who could help. I am seeking information about Ernest Hellmund, his wife Maria, and any of their children: Caroline, August, Matila/Othilda, Mariah/Mollie, Henry, Frederick, and Eliza. Ernest and his family settled in Scales Mound around 1854. Some census records state that their son, August was born "at sea", other state Illinois. Ernest is listed at various times as a laborer, but in at least one newspaper article he is called a doctor. In 1872, Maria, Eliza, and Frederick died. The three of them are buried in Scales Mound/Citizens Cemetery. The remaining family members, except August, moved to Ohio where they remained until their deaths. I have been sent information about a shooting involving Ernest, but I would like anything else that anyone might have concerning the time the Hellmund family lived in Scales Mound.
