My ancestors were Matthew
Toomey and Eleanor (Ellen) Marigan (also spelled
Merrigan,
Merigan). They were married in Jo Daviess on May 25, 1862. Both were irish immigrants. Ellen emigrated with her mother and siblings in the late 1840s and landed in New
Orleans. Matthew was born in October, 1820 and Ellen in January, 1835. After their wedding, they moved to
Smelser Township,
Grant County,
Wisconsin
