I have been browsing the Internet and saw your posting on
Sherman Reed and Maggie
Skaggs. I am not related. Here are my comments on what (little) I found about them. Maggie is generally short for Margaret. On the 1900 census of
Jasper Co., Ill. was listed
Sherman (born 5/1878) and wife Myrtle (born 6/1883) and Sherman's mother, Joann
Reed (b. 8/1861). Joann was born in Ind. and was listed as divorced. Apparently
Sherman and Myrtle were just married (1899-1900) and had no children. I feel Joann married Sherman's father about 1877 and she said she had one child (
Sherman). In looking at the 1880 census I could not find
Sherman or his parents anywhere (other states, etc.)
It appears that Sherman's first wife, Myrtle , either divorced him or died about 1902. He then married Maggie circa 1904-05. On the 1920 census they showed children ; Ray (b. 1906);
Rolf (b. 1915 - a big gap between him and Ray); and Albert (b. 1916). I dont know anything else about their children. Per the Soc. Sec. Death Index it appears your father, Ira L. was born 5/28/1928 and died 6/23/1990. On the 1930 census
Sherman and his family were still living in
Jasper Co.
As I looked for Sherman's father, I also looked for Maggie's parents. I looked at the 1900 census for all
Skaggs in Ill. and didnot find her parents either.
There was a Charles
Reed in
GRundy Co., Ill for the 1860 and 1870 census' and in
Randolph Co., Mo. for the 1880 and 1900 census'. He was born in
England and had a son named
Sherman born about one year after your
Sherman. This
Sherman died in 1914, so he wasnot your
Sherman and likewise his father, Charles, wasnot the father of your
Sherman.
Sorry I couuldnot find much info for you, but I tried. Possibly it will give you some food for thought. Bob
