Can you tell us more about him. The names of his children, for example.

He was born near Pomona, IL in Jackson County around 1863. His father's name was William Carroll Etherton and his mother was Susana Celia Etherton. His youngest child was Lena (my grandmother), Olive Belle, Robert, Serelda and Rutha, Fred and Golda. I have no record of his death or where he is buried. His daughter Rutha is listed on census rcords, but no one in my family has ever heard of her.

Although I did not have Thomas Jefferson ETHERTON listed in my files, some of the information I have on this family is as follows:

I have his mother listed as Susanna Celia HAGLER (b. abt 1840 in IL), daughter of Mathias HAGLER (1812-1897).

His father listed as William C. ETHERTON, Jr., son of William C. ETHERTON (1811-1855) and Minerva E. HILLER (b. abt 1817 in KY).

There are other ETHERTONs buried at Dutch Ridge and there is also an ETHERTON Cemetery. I will check to see if I can find your Thomas Jefferson ETHERTON there.

I wish your ancestors would have been a LITTLE more creative with their names! I have two other William Carroll Etherton(s) and neither are yours. Multiple Thomas and Thomas Jefferson, George and George Washington and no less than 5 Julia(s) so far. Has anyone done a definitive family tree for the Ethertons in Jackson County? and is there web accessible records for the Etherton Cemetery in Pomona?

And with all of the Ethertons in Jackson County during the 1800s why are you the ONLY one asking any questions about them, out of the 416 messages on this board... weird, huh?

For all interested in the Etherton Family in Jackson County, IL check out the following web site:

http://www.etherton.net/maingene.htm

While it does not appear to be currently active (last entry appears to have been made in 2000), the information provided some years ago is still of value, particularly the family tree charts and the individual pages that Joel Etherton prepared. Burials in the Etherton and Hagler Cemeteries are listed, although not in surname alphabetical order.

This is an active site, with an energetic host.

Click on "Cemetery Records". Scroll down to "Etherton" to see the listings alphabetical by surnames.

See also "Shawcross GEDCOM Database" in the World Connect Project at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/. At the home page, click on "World Connect Project" (left side of page). Then enter "Shawcross" as the database name in the box on the left side.

Tom Shawcross began his website some years ago while researching his own family. He then decided to include any person with Jackson Co. connections. His is probably the largest online database for people connected to Jackson Co. He is very careful about adding names and information only if he has proper source documentation (He will not accept data from undocumented online family trees---and sadly, there are tons of family trees on Ancestry with no source documentation).

Hope this is of some usefulness.
