I am hoping that someone can help me.

I have been looking for Melinda E. Garrett Smith. Her husband Levi Smith is buried in Looney Springs Cemetery in Sec/Row A 11.
In the "M" listing I found the following:
M.E.S. A-11 Small stone with only these initials.

Does anyone have any way to tell if this stone is next to the one for Levi Smith? I think that would make this stone belong to his wife Melinda, the person I am looking for.

Of course, it doesn't help with date of death, but if it is next to Levi this is surely Melinda.

Her dob was April 1826 and I have that she died between 1910 - 1912.

In the 1910 census she is in Illinois with her sons.

I am so excited to find this and hopefully pin her place of death and burial, now I just need to find the year.

Hope that someone can help me with this.

This is from the Looney Springs Cemetery book, it pretty much says the same thing.

The inventory for the Looney Springs Cem. shows the following for Smith.

PAGE 10

Henry G. Smith buried in B-2, 12-23-1885, 2-24-1921, 35 y. 2 m 1 d.

Infant Smith buried in A-10, died 10-29-1875, 3 yrs. 3 mo.

Levi Smith buried in A-11, died 1895, 77 yrs.

Thomas J. Smith buried in A-10, died 7-7-1866, 13 yrs. 10 mo. 23 days.

PAGE 8

M.E.S. buried in A-12, nothing else given.

Hope this helps!

Patricia

Thanks,
The Melinda E. Garrett Smith that I am looking for died there between the 1910 census and 31 Jan 1912. I was hoping that someone could pin it down for me. I am pretty sure that this is her. I was hoping that someone who goes to the cemetery pretty often could tell me if the M.E.S. stone was next to the one for Levi Smith who died in 1895.

Did you ever get an answer for this? If your Malinda Garrett is the daughter of Johnson Garrett and Belinda Wilson, then I am her descendant through her daughter Martha Elizabeth Shelton, from her first husband Leonard Thomas Shelton, who died young. Martha Elizabeth and her first husband, my great-great-grandfather Henry Williams, are buried at Looney Springs as well. I'm going to be in the St. Louis area for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and hope to pay a visit to Looney Springs then. I can check it out if you still need the information.

Yes, that is my Melinda Garrett. I have been researching the Garrett family. I would love to have any information on Melinda and her two husbands that you have. You can email me directly at mafreeman1@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your reply.
