Hi! My great X4 grandfather, Henry H White, husband of Rebecca (Smith) White, died in Nauvoo ... some say 1840 & some say 1845. Because only Rebecca (Rebecah) White is listed in the 1840 census as head of household, it fairly certain that he passed away at least before that census was taken.
I would love to know the exact date, and where he is buried!
Thanx for any help!

My X3 great grandmother died in Nauvoo in 1842 and is buried in the Old Saints Cemetery. I was told that all of the burials there are not known and I was just lucky that there was a record for my ancestor.

Hi! Thanx for the reply! I'll check out that cemetery. I came across something somewhere that said he was buried at "Casper's Hollow". I recently ran across a book, describing some of the old farms in Nauvoo in the 1840s, and it said they were looking for the Robison & Wells farms and went "... down into Parley St and followed it out into the well known Carthage road across Casper Hollow ..." and I believe passing the Old Mormon cemetery on the way. I guess it's possible that he died before the cemetery was 'formed' ... his wife & family went on to IA & Utah after he died. I've looked at the transcriptions of the Mormon cemetery that I could find, but no Henry White ... oh well!

The Sexton's Weekly Report for 24 August 1845, published in the 3 September issue of the Nauvoo Neighbor, lists:

"Henry White, 60y; unknown."

That does not mean that he died on the 24th, but the week of the 24th. He is not listed on the sexton's records, and his stone does not exist in the old Mormon Cemetery, if there ever was one. That is the cemetery that is at Casper Hollow—Casper Creek runs just north of the cemetery.

EarlyLDS.com lists Henry owning property at Kimball 1ST: Block 2, Lot 56, 1/2 Acre (the lot is on both sides of Fulmer St, from about Mulholland to White), and Kimball 1ST: Block 2, Lot 55, NE CORNER, 1/2 Acre (near the northeast corner of the intersection of today's Warsaw and Ripley streets).

If you contact me off the list and send me your email address, I will send you a copy of the Sexton's Report.

I hate to be one of those people that mooch off of someone else's post, but I have been having a terrible time finding any help at all with a few ancestors of my own in Nauvoo. A direct ancestor of mine named John Lindsay/Lindsey/Linsey appears to have died there sometime between 1845 and 1848. Is there any chance anyone with the name Lindsay shows up in any of your resources? Again, I hate to ask, but I've hit a brick wall with this family and am rather desperate.
