Seeking info on Isabella Thompson, b. 1837 Norway, who md. Andrew Larson in Grundy Co. IL on 23 Apr 1854. It is thought that Isabella was born "Ingeborg." Andrew aka Anders. This branch of Larson later adopted family name of "Mathre." Isabel/Isabella and Andrew/Anders also lived in Kendall Co. Who were her parents and siblings?

I am a direct descendant of Sjur Larson Martre (later Mathre). I have a completed family tree and am looking for more info on Sjur's grandaughter, Alice Tungesvik (Sjur's daughter Ingeri married Lars Tungesvik.

Alice married Conrad Rost, and moved to Montana

A 1937 history of Mathre family, completed by Sewell Mathre (son of Lars Larson, and grandson of Sjur Larson Mathre) states that Ingeri Larson, sixth child of Sjur, married Lars Townswick....is this "Americanization" of name Tungesvik? Ingeri and Lars had Torkel, Julia, Helen, Sam and Alice. The record states that Alice was wife of Mr. Rost.

Yes. I have that history, one that goes back to the origins in Norway in fact. Sjur Larson Matre was my great-great-great grandfather. Alice married Conrad McCall Rost in Helena, Montana in 1886.

Just Starting research on my grandmother, Gusta Mathre, b. March 1875 in Illinois. Both her parents were from Norway. She had a sister, Hattie b. May 1887 in Iowa. Don't know if there were other siblings. Gusta married Lewis Hoovel 1885/6. His parents (Tollefsrud line) were also from Norway. They lived in Iowa. That is all I know, so far. Do you have anything that could help?

Do you have any more information? I have an entire family tree for the Mathre's (originally Matre) going back to Norway, then Grundy County and then some of them went on to Story County, Iowa. I could not find a reference to this person though. Could she have had an Americanized version of that name perhaps?

As far as I can tell, she is not one of the children of Sjur Larson Matre-though the birth dates seem right.

I have found a little more. I have lost my mother's Bible that had all the info in it (I kick myself daily for that). . Mom's death certificate lists her mother as Augusta Mathre. I got the previous info from the 1900 Census (I'm attaching the page). Hattie Mathre is listed in the same household as sister-in-law to the head and was 13 at the time. She was born in Iowa. I did find my mother's birth certificate that shows her father's name as Ludwig, or Ludvig. I was going to send off for Gusta's birth certificate to Illinois, but since she was born prior to 1916, I need to request from the county and have NO idea where that might be. My parents were married by LAA. Mathre. I have a beautiful baptismal certificate with the name O.P. Mathre on it. I think it's in Norwegian and think it's a baptismal certificate based on the artwork.
