Michelle,

I have lots of ancestry and several surnames of interest in the area - with many burials listed at West Village. I am trying to determine how many others also are buried here. Do you have an index to these burials/cemetery transcriptions?

Primary names:
Stafford, Gill, Gillard, Leach, Standring, Bunting, Oakley, Bond, Summers, Golden, Longbons, Reid, Charlcraft, Harvey, Michels, Garmon/Garman, Wiles

Secondary names:
Smith, Rodgers, Pierce, Ellen, Harwick, Neal, Burkingstock, Holt, Piercy, Crowe, Baxter

Thank you very much for your offer to help! I really appreciate this kindness! -Kay, FL

What is your Leach connection? Does it connect through Daniel B. Leach and Lois Maria Root?

I'm descended from Lois' parents, Linus Root and Martha Burr, and collect information on their descendants.

Hello Michelle,

Loved your site.

My REID line differs from yours, though I imagine thru the multiple marriages, there could be a distant connection.
James STAFFORD m. Hannah REID 04/28/1887. [See Note Below]

If you have additional information on Hannah REID Stafford's ancestry, I am interested!

I have a couple of photos of Hannah and James that were sent to me by another descendant if your are interested. Hannah died in 1931.
Children were:
Albert, James Lyman, Lora & Lulu and Elva.

James STAFFORD remarried Bessie Mayes.
Their children were Tom and Nora.

Note: According to the book privately published by Vivian York Simms, TN in 1988, entitled" The Descendants of Thomas and Sarah Bennett Gill and related families, Hannah REID is listed as Lavina REID. She went by the name Hannah, but perhaps Lavina was part of her legal name.
I do know that there are other Lavina Reids....

Do you have access to this book? Let me know if I can help in that regard.

In this same book is extensive information on 'your' REID line, which I believe also connects to the BOND family. BOND is another surname of interest thru a STAFFORD sibling marriage.

I also noticed the name Longbons among your cemetery tombstone pictures. James Stafford's sister, Alma married Joe Longbons. Their children was Loren, Lorenz, Zeta, Joseph Jr., Carl and Cabot. I also have photos of this family. {By the way, additional Longbons information is also contained in this same book, though it does not list the
name(s) shown on your site.}

Thanks! -Kay, FL

I did a quick check and was able to locate their mailing addresses online. Are you connected to this surname, too?

Hello John,

I didn't receive a notification on your reply back in 2006. It's not the first time a notice wasn't rec'd. Hopefully, your email is the same now that I've see your post.

Perhaps you will recognize a connection between my LEACH line and Daniel B. LEACH's family.

In my line:
Elizabeth LEACH:
born 12/28/1817 England
died July/Jan? 10th, 1891 Albion, IL
married James Stafford 1835/36 in England.
James STAFFORD:
born 2/4/1816 Manchester Cheshire, England
died 2/21/1877 Albion, IL
Occupation: farmer/stone mason
Both are buried in West Village Cemetery.

James & Elizabeth had 7 children:
Hannah Stafford Standring 1837-1909 spouse: John
Rachel Stafford Bunting 1842-1893 spouse: Sylvester
Maria Stafford Bunting Oakley 1844-1930 spouses: Luke/Cyrus
Thomas Stafford 1850-1925 spouse: Fanny Summers
Florence Stafford Bunting 1842-?; spouse: Maurice
John Stafford 1854 -?
Albert Stafford 1857-1894; spouse: Hannah Gill

-There is some confusion between Thomas & John; the 1880 census lists 'John' Stafford w/ wife Fanny.

The only other information I have regarding the LEACH family is per Vivian Simms book -
William Summers is believed to be the son Of William Summers & Mary LEACH of Surry, England.

William, the son, married Mary Piercy in England approx 1850 and immigrated to Edwards Co., IL about the same time.

Mary LEACH Summers' will of 1904/1905 left money to:
Daughters - Mary Pierce, wife of Peter, and Nellie Newport, wife of Edward.

The rest of her estate was divided among her children:
James, William and Benjamin Summers, Fannie (Hannah) Stafford, Rose Charlcraft, Annie Brandis & Sarah Mason. Executor was John Ellen.

I am somewhat confused by this, since Mary LEACH Summers remained in England and did not immigrate to IL that I am aware of. The only John Ellen I know of was in Edwards Co., IL.

Perhaps John Ellen, the executor of her estate traveled back and forth between England and IL? There is probably a simple explanation, but I am not aware of the details.

I would like to know anything more about the LEACH family you could share with me.

Thanks -Kay,FL
