Dear friends, For those who are looking for the
Elder Cemetery, it is indeed in the southwest part of
Edwards County, I believe in
Dixon precinct. I have been there a few times. The first time I was there was as a teenager when a great granduncle, Herbert Vincent (1881-1974) took me there in 1964. He lived only a couple of miles from it. The last visit was several years ago and it was in a state of overgrowth and poor maintenance. Several of my Vincent ancestors are there. It is on private property and access can only be made with permission through opening a gate and by crossing over the landowner's ground maybe a 1/4 mile. A church was once there and burned in the early 40's. The cemetery was recorded I believe in 1970 and transcript of the markers is at the
Edwards County Historical Society in
Albion. Lois
Goodson would be a contact person for help. A great-great-great grandfather, James Vincent (ca.1804-1878) veteran of the Blackhawk War of 1832, spouse of
Queen Elizabeth Cross, is buried there with his wife and several children, grandchildren, etc. He has a government issue marker that as I remember was near or along a west fence line. Gary L. Shaffer in
