St Bernard Cemetery is located off Hobson Road and 63rd in Downers Grove, DuPage, IL. It is beging care for by someone. It comes under the Joliet Diocese, but they do not have records that indicate who is buried in what grave. Their records only show which graves are "used".
I need to find the caretaker of this cemetery, or someone who has family buried in this cemetery. I need to find where the records are kept that tell "who" is buried in "what" grave.
My brother ("Infant/Baby" Stenzel) is buried against the line of trees in this cemetery. This is the paupers section from what I can understand so far. There is no headstone for him. He died 7-19-1940 and was buried 7-20-1940. My father placed a loggers chain around the young tree next to his grave. The last time the grave was seen was in the late 1970's or very early 1980's, at which time there were only two of the links barely showing. It is reasonable to expect that they can no longer be seen after an additional 20 some years. However, the tree would have a bulge where the chain was. I need help finding the records and information on this cemetery. There was no obit and the viewing was in our home. My father took the casket to the cemetery, and the family came later. Edward C. Schubert of 39 Cass (Avenue, Westmont, IL) is shown as the Funeral Director, but it likely that he only prepared the body and sold my father the casket. Only the immediate family attended as my mother was not able to get out of bed after Adam's birth. Adam was born at home.
There was no autopsy or operation as Adam died within one hour of birth. There is no baptismal record for Adam at our church. Glenn G. Ehrler, MD of 1011 Burlington Ave, Downers Grove, IL was the doctor who complete the death certificate information. B. L. Willamson signed it as Deputy.
Can anyone help me locate the records, caretaker, or anyone having knowledge of the souls departed in this cemeter.
God Bless & God Speed,
