Although the State of Illinois did not require death registrations until 1916, that does not necessarily mean that there is no local record for a death. The most accessible record of a death is a cemetery reading, if there was a headstone of good durability placed on the grave to read in recent times. There are also locally kept death records, funeral home records, and obituaries to name a few others. It is a record such as one of these that I am hoping someone local to DeKalb County will be kind enough to look up for me. I may still come up empty handed, but it is always worth making a request for local assistance.
