Family rumor: Uncle Joe, a Polish man working for the mob, went missing in Chicago during the 70's and had a mobster style burial.
Very doubtful, but it has been a family story for ages. My mom has been looking for him for over 30 years and I have been for the past 5. I am desperate for help.
Proven:
Josef Porembski
28 May 1902 Piwniczna, Poland
Parents: Frank and Anastasia Porembski
Siblings: Anna and John
Arrival to US: August 1910
Family name change from Porembski to POREMSKI
lived in Bessemer, Michigan
Legal name change: Joseph Poremski to Joseph Harold Sylvester, 1928 in Bessemer, Michigan.
His sister received his letters post marked from LaGrange, Illinois. (suburb of Chicago)
Unproven:
*1930 census shows Joe Sylvester in Chicago -unknown if it's actually him.
*In his letters he stated he worked for the railroad.
*A niece tracked him down in LaGrange in the 70's and he answered the door saying he had no sister or niece.
I would appreciate any help I can get. It has been a puzzle far too long.
Thanks!
