Looking for any reference to Portingale/Portingall in the Chicago area

This is what I know:

In 1870
Rosanna Portingale widow of John [a painter who was born in England & died in Auburn, NY] was living with her children in Brooklyn.
In 1870 her son Jefferson a Painter was 26,
son James a painter was 22,
daughter Mary
[Helen Mary - Mrs Harold Doty who died in Auburn, NY] was 19
& daughter Emma was 16.
James Portingale age 7 was also in the household
[son of Jefferson or James?]

In 1937-38 a Julia Portingall from 'Chicago' visited the Doty family in Auburn, NY and Uncle Jo was told that she was his father's aunt - ie sister to Helen Portingall Doty.

This family tended to go by their middle names [ie Mary became Helen M & LOTS more in the family did this!!]
That is why Emma could be Julia??
