Hi Doug-
It's kind of a long story, but I am actually doing this research to insure that the correct information is included on the Law Enforcement Memorials (there's a number of them).
The City of Berwyn knew that Off. Fred Kuncl had been slain on 26 April 1920 and had long ago retired his badge, but the specifc circumstances of his death were unknown.Apparently all official reports had been lost or destroyed long ago.
Little by little I am finding out what actually occured that night & am looking into the lives, both before and after the shooting, of all of the main participants.
It's really quite an interesting & tragic story, but as I indicated in my post, Off. Kuncl was killed by another police officer from the adjoining commumity of Riverside.
If you are familiar with the area, it occurred on Harlem at about 34th street. Part of the controversy is whether it took place on the west side of Harlem in Riverside or the east side in Berwyn.
