I am looking for information on my great great great grandfather Jefferson Coleman - believed born around 1805 in Kentucky, arriving in Coles County around 1828 with his wife Eliza Yocum. Also information about any of his decendants and especially anything about his parents (which I have guesses but no real info). Names listed are those families his children married into as I find often family histories are passed down from mother to daughter. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am sorry that I have no information at all about the COLEMANs, but wondered if you know any more about the YOCUM family that you mentioned. Do you know where in KY they came from? I have been searching for a long time for any information about Phillip H. O'DELL, born around 1814, who married Mary Jane YOCUM on Sept. 23, 1839. They had one son, Clarence, before Phillip died on 25 November, 1841. He is buried in the YOCUM Cemetery, Ashmore Twp., Coles Co., IL. Mary Jane remarried to Joshua AKERS and had at least one son, Thornton. I believe that Nancy O'DELL who married Andrew CLARK, b. 1800 in KY, in Coles County in 1833 was a sister of Phillip O'DELL, but I have been unable to find real proof. Do any of these additional names strike any chords in your information?

Hmmm...not sure. If you go to "search > search all records > see more (under featured) > pblic member tress (in lower right)"

Then for the search type in Jefferson Coleman as the name and 1805 as the birth year. Coleman family tree should show up about 6 options down. You should then be able to click through to Yocum. Jefferson was married to Eliza Yocum, sister of Mary (Yocum) Odell / Akers.

If that doesn't work I can see what I can send along later...

Probably nothing you do not already have, but it does appear (just assumptions) that Phillip might have been the brother of Isaac and Nancy Odell. Isaac was married to Mary Martin Gammill (1811-1893) who looks like came to Coles about the same time as Phillip. Isaac's father was Caleb Odell (1780-1821) and mother Rachel Clevenger (1781-?). But have not run across a clear link between Phillip any of them.

I have long wondered whether Isaac, Nancy, and Phillip O'DELL were brothers and sister, but have lacked proof, and have also been unable to attach parents to them. So I am very interested in your attribution of Caleb O'DELL and Rachel CLEVENGER to Isaac and Nancy. Could you tell me your source for that information?

Nancy and her husband, Andrew CLARK named their second son, my gggrandfather, Phillip O'DELL CLARK, so it is pretty clear that he was someone important to them, but the specifics of the connection are still not absolutely certain.
