I am looking for information on William and Mary Jane (Griswold) Fosdick. All I have to go on is that Mary Jane died in Milo, Bureau County, Illinois April 23, 1864 and that she married William Fosdick April 30, 1853.

I am particularly interested in William's heritage, however, if anyone has any information on this couple, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

My ancestor, JOHN MAT(T)HEWS was buried in Mineral Twp., Bureau County, IL, in 1854. He left a widow, IRENA FOSDICK MAT(T)HEWS. She died later, I do not know where. Her mother was RENA CARRINGTON FOSDICK, wife of WILLIAM FOSDICK, a Revolutionary War Soldier, who died in Allegeny County, NY. JOHN MAT(T)HEWS and IRENA FOSDICK MAT(T)HEWS came to IL from Hartford, Washington County, NY.

Thank you for your response. I have William and Rena (Carrington) Fosdick on my tree. They are my 5th great grandparents.

I have their daughter Irena listed as Rena. However, she lived from March 25, 1789 - Dec. 15, 1885. I also do not know where she died, but now assume in Illinois.

When did she and John marry and did they have any children?

Please feel free to e-mail me if you prefer to finish this discussion offline.

Thank you again for your help.

WARNING: THIS IS ONLY A GUESS!

I think William Fosdick who m. Mary Griswold in Bureau County IL may have been the son of Joel Fosdick & his first wife, Sally Atwood (she d. 1844 in Angelica, Allegany County, NY). I know of one child of this m: Sally who I believe may be the Sarah Fosdick who m. John King 1853 in Bureau County, IL. If so, Sally & William may have been living with or near Anthony Fosdick of Bureau County IL, who would have been their uncle.

Remember this is only a place to begin looking!

Joel is listed in the 1830 Washington County NY & in the 1840, 1850 & 1860 Allegany County NY Census indexes. So his children would have probably been born in those counties.

Hope this helps.

My gr gr gm,Sarah Ford, married an Edward C. Fosdick in Lee Center, Lee Co.,IL in 1848. Edward died of fever in 1850 same place. Sarah went on to marry Thomas Logan in 1853. Had son, Orlando, and daughter, Irina(later called Eldora) Her full name was Eldora Irina-then called Eldora Irene.)
Sarah;s parents were Curtis and Eleanor Pratt Ford. Curtis was said to have lived in Bureau Co - I do not have any death date. Are there any family connections with these people?
