Mark, I know your original inquiry was long ago, but I just saw it. I am truly hoping this reply gets to you. I am related to your wife's half-sister. Her grandfather was the brother of my Great-Grandmother, Zada Whitney. One odd thing is that I have ALWAYS heard of Zada's brother being "Dean Samuel" not "Samuel Dean" (Samuel Dean was their Grandfather). I've got an extract from the 1900 Census for Kingston Township, DeKalb County, Ill that shows Lorenzo and Maggie and the kids. A friend sent it to me ages ago:
The family in 1900 Census, Kingston Twp., Dekalb Co., Illinois.
L.H. Whitney, b. Mar 1862 in IL, married 14 years, Parents from Ohio.
Maggie M., b. July 1861, first marriage for 14 yrs, 6 kids, 6 alive, parents France and Germany.
Also they are in the 1910 census, same place, but Lorenzo is missing.
Margaret, age 46, b. IL, parents Germany and France with
Dean 16, Harriet 14, Zada 12 and Bulah G. 10. Shows her with first marriage, 7 kids, 6 alive.
