I hadn't noticed this thread before. What I'm wondering is how far back you've traced your Schermerhorns. My ggg grandmother was Neeltje (Elenor) Schermerhorn b. 1781 in Schenectady and married there in 1803 to Hendrick Bastiaanse (Henry Bastion after he moved to IN in 1821). I don't know her death date; she disappears from the record after the birth of her last child in 1821. Most Schermerhorns in the US descend from Jacob Janse Schermerhorn, b. 1622 in the town of that name in Holland, came to New Netherlands (now NY state) in 1638 as an apprentice and rose to become a major figure before his death sometime after writing his will on May 21, 1688. At least one Schermerhorn came from Holland much later, but most here descend from him. Curious as to whether you have traced back that far or not. I can help if you haven't.
