To start with, give me the dates you have, and his parents, g parents, if you have them, anything else going backwards, with places if you have those. Include all siblings, children, spouses, etc. Also on his wife's parents. Not so important to take her back more than a generation or two. All that helps in tying him to earlier generations of Schermerhorns. To begin with, the documentation isn't so important. You need that, of course, but can fill it in later once you have some idea of which line you're working with. A great deal about the Schermerhorns is online to be tapped into. There are also books that you can check out from the library, through InterLibrary Loan if need be. I don't own any of the books but have looked at them in the past.
