Hello,
I'm trying to find a marriage record for Emma Mabel Jordan (Thornton-her first husband's name-widowed) and Mahler Yockey from Sept. 1905. I don't know if they married in Idaho, but I suspect it. I couldn't find a marriage record in Canyon Co., nor in Malheur Co. in Oregon. Also seeking a death record or obit for Mahler Yockey who died between Sept. 1905 and Jan. 1907 when his widow bought property in Ontario, OR. She went by the name Mrs. Mabel Yockey after his death.
Please respond privately to Brigid272_at_comcast.net. Thank you!

WEISER, Idaho birth lookup / marriage lookup / city directory lookup

I'm searching for information on the marriage of these two folks below:
1) John H. Anderson / b abt 1899 ?
2) Marvel Broadbent / b Apr 15, 1919 in Canada d 28 Jul 1946 in Seattle WA.

The couple above were married in Weiser, IDAHO on Nov 19, 1936. I'm trying to determine WHO this J. H. or John H. Anderson was, his exact birthdate, and what happened to him after his wife, Marvel died in 1946.

I'm hoping someone could look through the "city directories" for the years previous to the marriage in 1936 and see if he is mentioned before his marriage to Marvel in 1936.

Also could you check to see if there is info about the marriage of Marvel Broadbend to John H. Anderson in the Weiser newspaper after Nov 19, 1936.

Finally, they had a daughter on Feb 26, 1940 in Weiser .... but I want to prove that she was born in Weiser, ID, so could someone check the papers and see if a daughter was born to this couple on that date, and see if there is a "name" for this daughter????

Marvel (Broadbent) Anderson died 28 July 1946 in Washington State, and the daughter was then adopted by the family of Owen A Labrum and his wife Evelyn. Her name at that time was Sandra Gay Labrum. She later married Gerald D. McClune and died in Oregon in 1973.

Obituary for Lois Timpke Widner

The Upper Country News-Reporter
Cambridge, Idaho
Thursday, July 31, 1930

MRS. EDWARD WIDNER SUMMONED BY DEATH
Funeral Services Are Held Tuesday for Popular Midvale Lady
Midvale - The community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Edward Widner who passed away at 10:30 Saturday night after months of illness. Mrs. Widner was operated on for appendicitis in June, seemingly recovered and was able to return to the home of her mother, Mrs. F. E. Timpke on July 8. An infant son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Widner Monday morning, death following for the baby a few hours later and for the mother the following Saturday, July 26. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Turner of Weiser from the local Baptist church Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and interment made in the east side cemetery.
Lois Timpke was born at Prosser, Wash., August 7, 1907. She moved with the family to Midvale in 1920 completing her school life here. She was married to Edward Widner Sept. 6, 1925. To this union were born two sons, Edward Lavelle aged 4 and Gerald Kenneth aged 2, beside the infant who preceded her in death. She leaves two sisters Mrs. H. M. Howard of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Whetf of Melba, Ida., and two brothers, Frank Timpke of Long Beach, Calif., and Warren Timpke of Yakima, Wash., and the mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Timpke of Midvale, besides the husband and sons.
The high esteem in which Lois was held by the community was indicated by the crowd of mourners who packed the church and the lavish floral tributes which, as Rev. Turner said in his address, said more in behalf of her life as school girl, wife and mother than words could possibly say. The loss to the family and community is great, comfort coming only from above at times like this.
The entire family was present at the funereal Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Timpke and Mrs. Timpke's mother, Mrs. Feemster coming from Long Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Timpke from Yakima, Mr. and Mrs. Whetf from Melba and Mrs. H. M. Howard and daughter from Stockton, Calif.

The Upper Country News-Reporter
Cambridge, Idaho
Thursday, April 26, 1934

F. E. TIMPKE
Midvale - Frank Emil Timpke was born in Iowa in 1860 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Howard in La Grande, Oregon, Friday morning April 20, 1934. Death came very suddenly due to pneumonia. It had been the custom for some time of Mr. and Mrs. Timpke to spend each winter in California with their son. Mr. Timpke arrived at the home of his daughter in La Grande on Wednesday evening on this return trip to Midvale only two days before his death. Mrs. Timpke had remained in California planning to make the trip home with their son and wife who were coming here about May 1.
He is survived by his widow of Midvale; two sons, G. W. Timpke of Yakima, Wash., and E. F. Timpke of Long beach, Cal., two daughters, Mrs. E. O. Watts of Melba, Idaho and Mrs. H. M. Howard of La Grande, Oregon. Three children preceded him in death. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, one brother, G. C. Timpke of Midvale, three sisters, Mrs. Ella Shultz of Spokane and two of Brunswick, Missouri.
He was a member of the Methodist church and of the I.O.O.F. and W.O.W. lodges.
Services were held at the Midvale Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with Evangelist Henry Towell officiating, He was assisted by Rev. W. M. Platt. The Odd Fellows of Middleton, where Mr. Timpke was a member, and the Midvale lodge had charge of services at the grave.
The church was filled to capacity and the large crowd that could not get inside the church waited on the outside. The front of the church was banked with a profusion of beautiful flowers. There were emblems of the esteem in which the community held the deceased.
The remains were brought to Midvale by hearse from La Grande Tuesday morning by George Walker. The Walker Funeral Home of La Grande had charge of the funeral . Burial was made in the Midvale cemetery.

I need help finding my grandfather.

This is what I have been told about my grandfather and grandmother but I can find any info to prove it.

"That Clements had sold their place in Weiser and bought a Hotel in Cambridge. And in the Fall of 1936 we got
word that Ray was sick. He died shortly after we got back. Sandy lived there with his mother and Father. Grace's Mother sent Ray's body to Pocotello for burial."

So if he died in the fall of 1936 then he should be on an index. But I can't find him I can't ask for his death cert with out a full death date. His head stone states 1936 and the Mortuary in Pocotello do not have any record of his move.

Could someone look for an obit for me?
Does any one know of a mortuary that was in business during that time?

Thanks so much for your time
Ramona
Weiser Semi-Weekly Signal
Weiser, Idaho
Wednesday, December 12, 1906

On Saturday, December 9, was consummated one of the happiest weddings of West Weiser valley. At the home of the bride’s parents on the picturesque banks of the Snake river, Mr. John T. Sperry was united in joyful marriage to Miss Orpha Melton. The Rev. A. I. Mow solemnized the marriage, while a goodly number of relatives and friends were present to enjoy and lend felicity to the occasion. The groom and the bride were in the early years of fully developed man and womanhood. Both were tastily and beautifully dressed. Hearty congratulations were extended and joy and prosperity invoked upon the favored couple. After the presentation of many useful presents, the dinner which was bountifully characteristic of the unlimited possibilities of the rich resources of the valley, was served. Such ample justice was done to the feast as to bestow the most telling compliments upon the ladies who prepared it. The occasion was a memorable one and the happy pair will go through life rejoicing.
A Killing at Weiser 1898

Payette Independent
Payette, Idaho
Thursday, December 15, 1898

A killing at Weiser.

The Statesman of Tuesday morning gives the following account of the Weiser shooting scrape which took place Monday night:

Ira Harder and Sam Brundridge met this evening at 10:30 in a saloon. A controversy arose between them, when blows were threatened, but the proprietor of the saloon interfered and for a time no trouble occurred. The men were not habitual frequenters of the house and unknown to the proprietor.

Suddenly Harder resumed the attack and immediately shooting began. When the smoke had cleared away Brundridge was found shot through the heart and Harder was mortally wounded, but walked half a mile with a ball through his lungs.

It was a desperate duel to the death and an old feud was the cause, though its origin is known only to the participants.
The remains were taken to Weiser for burial. The funeral took place on Monday morning in that city, an account of which is given in the Weiser Signal as follows:

The funeral services of Mrs. Bert Woodland, who died at Payette Sunday morning, were held Monday morning under the auspices of Kalos Circle, of the Women of Woodcraft. Services were held in Odd Fellows hall, conducted by Revs. Deiapine and Deal. A large concourse of friends and the ladies of the Circle followed the remains. She came to Idaho in 1863, and has been a resident of the state ever since. At the age of 15 years she was married to Lafayette Lansdon, was the mother of thirteen children, twelve of whom survive her.

Payette Independent
Payette, Idaho
Thursday, January 29, 1903

Daughters of Weiser Couple Pass Away Suddenly From Unknown Cause

The Weiser Signal gives the following account of the death of two children at that place in a very mysterious manner.

"On last-Sunday morning immediately after breakfast the two young daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fisher, Jean aged 4 years, and Katherine, aged 2 years, were taken violently ill. A physician was at once summoned but in spite of his efforts the older child died within 24 hours. About 12 hours later, on Monday, the younger child died. All the physicians of Weiser were summoned after the death of Jean but they were unable to save the second. The case is very puzzling and the doctors have been unable to decide upon the cause of death. There were no symptoms of disease and death occurred too quickly to be caused by ordinary forms of contagious diseases and none of these were present. No unusual food had been eaten, and others ate what the children ate and were not sick. The physicians held a post mortem examination and examined the food and the stomachs of the children, but could find no evidence of poison. The stomach of the younger has been sent away for chemical analysis.

"Meanwhile the awful fact stuns the parents that the children are dead. Mrs. Fisher is so prostrated with grief as to be in a most serious condition."

Mr. Scanlon had just been released from the county jail where he was serving a sentence for assaulting his wife and threatening her life and had been warned not to come back to Payette. He was a hard drinking man and a bottle of liquor was found on his person. Just what train hit him will probably not be known as he passed through Payette Saturday evening enroute to Huntington. His ticket read only to Weiser and the conductor noticing him on the train at Olds Ferry put him off. The remains were interred in Weiser.

New Plymouth Sentinel
New Plymouth, Idaho
Thursday, September 4, 1913

Lineman Electrocuted

Frank Johnson, an employee of the Idaho-Oregon Light company, was electrocuted Wednesday morning at 11:15 o'clock while in the discharge of his duty two miles west of Eaton on what is known as the high line. At this place the company is at work raising their telephone wires above those of the Mountain States company. Johnson had gone up one of the poles to make the necessary change when his leg came in contact with one of the telephone wires and the ground wire on the pole which completed the circuit.

"Somebody cut the ground wire," he shouted as he fell backwards onto two other telephone wires. That was the last he said. His fellow workmen went to his aid as soon as they could climb the pole and cut the wires on which he rested. He was then lowered and all efforts to restore him known to the workmen were restored to. Frank Johnson was 23 years of age and has been at work as lineman for this company for the past seven years. His parents, both of whom are living, reside at Kalispell, Mont. - Weiser Signal.

midvale - life on the farm?

I am wondering what growing up on the farm was like in 1918 to about 1930. My grandmother Melva PARADIS was born in the middle valley in 1918, and I have been looking for sites that describe this place and time.....I haven't had much luck. So, my question is - Doe's anyone on these boards know of a website or a book that can be loaned out or bought, that will describe to me what gramma's life was like growing up?

I imagine that it was hard. Any body know what kind of chores the kids had around the farm? Also, I am very interested in what they may have done for entertainment, was there a theater near by? A dance hall or saloon? What was the financial market like back then?

Ok, I know too many questions....but you get the gist! Anyone, that can describe or send me to the describer would be appreciated.

Keep on the Sunny Side.........Rea

Weiser American
Weiser, Washington county, Idaho
Monday, July 9, 1951

Edward (Ted) Filley Dies at Residence

Edward (Ted) Filley, 46, Weiser city electrician for the past five years and former employee of the Idaho Power company, died at his home at 727 West First street Saturday at about 7:40 a.m. following a heart attack.
Mr. Filley was born April 8, 1905 at Council and has resided in Weiser for the past eight years. He is said to have a greater working knowledge of Weiser electrical circuits than any person in the community.

Mr. Filley went to work for the city of Weiser in 1947 and became electrical foreman. Included in the many projects which he planned and installed were the drawing up of plans for the city electrical lines and improvement of the city power system by sectionalizing the circuits. This sectionalizing enabled crews to confine power failures to small sections of the community rather than the entire city.

At the time of death, he was engaged in the project of a proposed installation of a "loop" circuit into the city which could be used as a secondary source of power for the city in case of power failure on the main supply lines. He also assisted in the installation and design of the lights at Memorial park and in shortening lines to keep voltages up and installing more transformers throughout the city to give residents better service.

Mr. Filley is survived by his wife, Juline; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Filley of Council; and three brothers, George Filley of Richmond, Calif., Sig of Cascade Locks, Ore., and Lewis of Eugene, Ore., a sister, Mrs. Marion Foutz of Klamath Falls, Ore.

The time of services has been set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Northam-Jones chapel with Rev. O. L. Johnson officiating. Interment will be at the Rosedale cemetery in Payette.

I have information that my great-grandparents, Robert Burns Kennedy and Ethel Bussey Kennedy owned a farm in Washington County 1910-1920. By 1930 they were living in California. I'd like to find out what happened to the farm (whether it was sold, abandoned, etc.) What's the best way to find out?

Married in 1880 in Idaho. John may have been a Sheriff in Washington County. From copies of census they had 4 children. Walter A. , Myrtle R., Harold A.and Mabel J(Jennie M). John died before census in 1910 as Elizabeth shows in the census with their children. In 1911 she married Geroge F. Dickerson. I would appreciate any information regarding these people. Thank you.
BROWN -Miner from England in Washington Co. 1880

In my last posting, I forgot to include a very important element to my query.

According to the ID Census of 1880(Washington Co.)an entry for a Charles B.BROWN reads... age...53/ miner/ born in England .

No doubt this was the same miner (Charles B. BROWN age...43/mine/born in England) found in the Owyhee ID Census (Silver City) in 1870.

If any of this rings a bell {or if you have any suggestions} I would appreciate hearing from you.

Charles BROWN - Miner born in England - abt. 1830

I am trying to locate my GGrandfather, Charles (B.?) BROWN.
What I know is:

a. Charles was probably a miner
b. Wife, Mary E. was a dressmaker in Boise City (1891)
c. His son, James, was born abt. 1875 - Boise City
d. James, on a mining expedition in Ecuador, died in 1911
d. James, my grandfather, was of Irish descent

Looking through the ID Census of 1870 , in Silver City Owyhee Co., I hound two miners by the name of Charles BROWN.

Charles #1 was 40 yrs - born in England (E.=middle initial)
Charles #2 was 43 yrs - born in Ireland

From another source, I found that a Charles BROWN had died in the Succor/Sucker Creek area (Silver City) in 1885, Our Charles was believed to be alive in 1911 when our State Dept. sent a letter of notification to him and his wife, Mary E. BROWN, of their son's overseas death. They had guessed that James' parents were living in Boise City(city of Jame's birth). The letter was returned, undelivered.

I have yet to find any other records(birth, marriage etc.) connecting Charles, Mary E. and James BROWN. So, ANY leads or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Does anyone happen to know of a webpage or other resource pertaining to miners of early Idaho?
