I recently located a death record for an gr uncle Fred Custer Lindley that said he died at Hot Springs in 1946 - which I think is in Owyhee county. He is in Jerome County on the 1930 census and may have moved to Owyhee county - but I was wondering if perhaps he had gone to a hospital there or something.

Does anyone know what the area would have been like in 1946 - would someone have traveled to Hot Springs for medical attention?

Hello. I am wondering if anyone knows how I could find or get a lookup for voter registrations for Owyhee. I am trying to track Patrick Stromblad who was in the Silver City area starting in 1894. He gained his citizenship in 1896, so he may have been registered to vote then. By 1910 he was in California, registered as Republican. I'm trying to figure out exactly when he left the Silver City area. It was sometime between 1900 and 1910 and voter registrations might help me figure that out.

Thanks so much for any help!

Denise S. Flynn

I know he had a 360 acre ranch near Silver City and resided in the county from 1864 until his death in 1922. In an article in the Idaho statesman it is stated that he ran one of the stage coach stations between Silver City and Boise. It also mentions that he used to winter with friends in Nampa and Boise. I know that he is buried with his wife Effie in Reynolds. I am looking for any stories about him and his family, and or any information about his birth having been in Pittsburgh in 22 August 1837.

I have a ref to a marriage record, census data for 1900, 1910, 1920 and ref to Nettie's death in 1914.

I wonder if there are any descendants out there who may have pix or more info on the family, particularly Nettie. Is it still there? When did it close, etc., etc..
I would date the plate in the early century but not sure. Similiar small black glaze plates are usually German manufacture and date from 1890 - 1920. Thanks! Burton Williams in Boise.

Does anyone know if Owyhee historian Mildretta Hamilton Adams is related to the Eva Adams that appears on p. 20 of her book "Historic Silver City: the Story of the Owyhees?" Eva is related to me so I am working at finding more information.

Thanks,
Patty

E.P. Sjowall stagecoach driver

E.P. Sjowall, my grgrandfather was both a saloon keeper and a stage coach driver in Owynee County. He traveled from Silver City to Oregon, I believe. I want to know more about the stagecoach route at this time. It was believed to be a mail route.
Also, He married one of the young Finn women, Mary Ann in 1868 when she was 18 years old. Her sister margaret married John Catlow, a miner and cattleman. Nothing is known about their parents. The big question: why would two unmarried sisters go to Silver City?

I am trying to locate my GGrandfather, Charles (B.?) BROWN.
What I know is:

a. His wife, Mary E., was a dressmaker in Boise City, 1891
b. Son, James, was born abt. 1875 - Boise City
c. He was a miner
d. He was of Irish descent

Looking through the Silver City, Owyhee ID Census of 1870...I discovered two Charles BROWNs ...that were miners.

Charles #1 was 43 yrs - born in Ireland.
Charles #2 was 40 yrs - born in England (B.=middle initial)

Checking further...in "The Owyhee Co. Gleanings," I saw that a Charles BROWN had died in the Succor/Sucker Creek area
12 March 1885. Our Charles was alive until at least 1911.

I would appreciate ANY leads or suggestions someone would be willing to share. Does anyone happen know of a webpage or some other resource pertaining to gold/silver seekers of the early Idaho Territory?
Father "Fat" daughter "Don"

Hello; I recently purchased a calendar diary from Homedale Idaho for the year 1941. The writer never identifies herself, but her husband's name is "Fat" and her daughter "Don" marries someone named Ed on 1 Sept. 1941. The entry for that day says "To Emmeth (?) Kids were married." Is Emmeth a place name or is there a place name that might look like Emmeth in handwriting?
I would like to return this diary to someone in the family, but census records for 1930 Homedale do not show anyone matching the info I have. If you recognise these unusual names (probably pet names for husband and daughter), please contact me, or pass my email address on to the family if you know them. My address is gensearchers@shaw.ca

Best wishes

Norm Dawson
Calgary AB
Canada

A. P. Minear article

Salinas Weekly Index
Monterey Co., CA
5 July 1888

**An Old Time Friend -- Our old friend, A.P. MINEAR, formerly of Silver
City, Idaho, is in town this week visiting his friend, Jud PARSONS. They
were boys together 50 years ago in the mountains of Virginia. MINEAR left that country in 1843 for California and has made the Pacific coast his home ever since, most of the time in this state; however, he has lived in Oregon and Washington Territory. He also took the first quartz mill to Idaho Territory, where he, like and with the editor of this paper, fought many a battle with the Indians. MINEAR also built the first telegraph line through that country from Winnemucca, Nevada to Portland, Oregon, about 600 miles long. After the war he went South and engaged in a railroad enterprise in Georgia and Florida -- he says at that time the South was not ready for railroads -- and after spending several years of time and considerable money, he failed and went back into mining again. For the last 2 years, under the direction of his 2 sons, he has been opening a big gold quartz mine near Jackson, Amador county, in this State. He has spent from $50,000 to $60,000 in its development and now is erecting a 60-stamp mill which he intends to have running some time next winter -- a mill that will work 200 tons of rock per day.

I am attempting to locate descendents of Nathan W. Brown, a resident of Owyhee County who died in Boise in 1933. Brown is my wife's first cousin, twice removed. Their common ancestors were Nathan and Sarah Robb of Highland County, Paint Township Ohio.

According to 1930 census records for Owyhee, Nathan Brown and his wife, Mary, had three children, Clarence W. (b. about 1913), Edith M. (b. about 1916), and Frank L (b. about 1921). Social Security Death Index records suggest that Clarence and Frank both may be alive. Other information suggests that their descendents may still reside in Homedale or vicinity. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

Oregon Trail in Owyhee Co., ID

I grew up on a farm in Owyhee Co., ID, 7 miles from Marsing on S.R. 78, on the road to Givens Hot Springs. In 1946 I graduated from Marsing High School and left home for good. At the time the road from Marsing to Murphy was still unpaved; electricity had not yet reached our farm home. My mother told me we lived very near a site where travelers on the Oregon Trail were massacred by Indians. I think it was called the "Sinker Creek Massacre" but I'm not sure. Does anyone know details of this event? I've heard a historical marker (for an "Oregon Trail" site) was erected on the school grounds where I attended in the lower 8 grades. This was in Opaline school, a one-room school situated 1/4 mile from our house. The school is no longer there: it is now a school museum on the campus of Boise State College, about 50 miles away. This marker was erected after I graduated from Opaline, so I am told. Please contact me if you would like to share information on this subject. Thanks, Mary Foster Ludvigsen, Seattle, WA.
