Frank "Red" Jorgenson (1943-2008) Obituary

Idaho State Journal, 09/19/08

MALAD - Frank (Red) Jorgenson, 64, of Malad, Idaho, passed away Thursday morning, 11 September 2008, in his sleep of a heart attack. Red was born on Oct. 19, 1943, in Preston, Idaho, to Fred and Lilly Jorgenson. He was the youngest of 10 children.
Red (as he preferred to be called), is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Frank; three daughters, Cherrie Gibson, Coleen Griffin and Brandy Lopez; a brother, Karl; three sisters, Ethel Smith, Beth Reinardy and Tiney Schafer; plus 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Red completed a four-year hitch in the U.S. Army, and then for a period of time worked cattle on a ranch in Big Piney, Wyoming, and then started driving long-haul, over-the-road trucks for his brother, Karl, moving these manufactured housing units from the factory to dealerships, or the places they were to be installed on. He loved this work.
Red was a cook during his tour of duty in the military, and was used to cooking for large groups of people, so this naturally carried over to his being delegated the family cook at the annual Jorgenson family reunions. He loved to cook over open wood fires, a carryover from his days as a ranch hand in Wyoming.
Red will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He was cremated as per his wishes, so no services are planned at this time.

Sheridan Lewis Owens (1938-2008) Obituary

Deseret Morning News, 08/20/08

Sheridan Lewis Owens devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and friend returned to his Heavenly Father and those who passed away before him, August 18, 2008, after a courageous battle which he valiantly endured for over one and a half years. During his confrontation, Sheridan never lost his dignity, valor, strength, sense of humor, or love of life and love of family and friends. He had tremendous support from his doctors, nurses, family, friends and neighbors. He was the first child of three children born in Malad, Idaho December 4, 1938 to John Clair Owens and Dorothy Lewis Owens. He married Barbara Rumel June 1961; they were blessed with five beautiful children. Barbara died October 27, 2001. He married Sandra (Sandy) Mugleston Meadows, April 9, 2005. Sandy's three children also became part of his beautiful family. Together Sheridan and Sandy have a total of 30 grandchildren. As a young boy his family moved from Malad to Twin Falls and then to Buhl. He became an Eagle Scout at age 16. He always had a love of airplanes and a desire to become a pilot one day. Sheridan was a friend collector - many who have been friends since childhood and thru his lifetime. After graduation from Buhl High School Sheridan headed with a good friend to Weber State College for a year, then spent a year at BYU, where he was a member of ROTC. With his great love of airplanes and a desire to fly he enlisted in the Air Force. After boot camp he was transferred to Travis Air Base and had the opportunity to take flying lessons. From there was transferred to Hill Air Force Base and was trained as an aviation mechanic. While at Hill Air Force Base flying a C-47 he accumulated about 1500 flying hours. Sheridan spent three years in Okinawa and was in the 33rd Air Rescue Squadron in maintenance. From that point he went to Vietnam quite early in the war as a rescue outfit to rescue U-2 pilots that were shot down over North Vietnam and China. Sheridan enjoyed many years flying for Northwest Pipe Lines and the Williams Company, he retired 1999, saying that he did what he always dreamed of doing "flying airplanes". After retirement Sheridan built an airplane in his garage then had fun flying it. His biggest dream was to build a replica P-51 Mustang, a project he had waited his life to begin. (the P-51 Mustang was an American long-range fighter aircraft that entered service with Allied Air Force in the middle years of World War II). He finished this project this spring with the help of great friends and was given recognition on a KSL-TV News Special. He named this plane "Lil Darlin" after the pet name he gave to his wife, Sandy. Building this plane was a monumental project, but a "labor of love" which he enjoyed tremendously. Sheridan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various capacities. He was called on a mission in 1996 for the Family Service Substance Abuse Recovery Service, which he enjoyed serving for over two years. He loved serving the Lord, his family and friends and "flying Airplanes". He was loved and well respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his lovely wife, Sandy, his 94 year old father, his sister, DD and husband, Dick White, brother and sister-in-law, Muggs and Jessie, five children and their spouses: Dee and Sherri Owens, Sherri and Doug Whitehead, Dennis and Kim Owens, Ellyn and Eric Franks, Mary Ann and Matt Fowler and three step-children and their spouses: Jeff and Dawn Meadows, Rick and Julie Meadows, Cindy and Chad Boyce, and 30 beautiful grandchildren and lots of good friends and extended family members who dearly loved him. Preceded in death by Mother, wife, Barbara, and sister, Sue. Viewing Thurs., August 21, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive. He died three weeks after being diagnosed. Born June 10, 1931 in Pleasant View, Idaho to Byron Owen Court and Bertha Ann Brown. He married Lorraine Jones on July 26, 1950 in the Logan Temple. Ray was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a cattle rancher in Dillon, Montana for 12 years and then returned to Utah and taught diesel mechanics at Salt Lake Community College for 17 years. He loved to fish and tie flies. He leaves many memories with his family of these experiences. He retired at age 74 from ICM Equipment Company. Ray served the Lord in many capacities, most of them known only to the recipients. He and Lorraine served as missionaries at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. He worked in the name extraction program for many years and most recently at Crosslands and then at South Town Ranch, serving on Sundays and driving the patrons to the temple once a week. He was a care taker, helping his mother in her last years, and then caring for his wife who has been blind and bed-ridden. His fishing trips and travel were set aside as he learned new hobbies like cooking and gardening. His wonderful sense of humor carried him through every situation as well as helping others get through them too. One of his most honored attributes was developing a personal relationship with every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. He was the strong quiet support that showed up at each ball game, wrestling match, music performance, church ordination and family, gathering. We love you and will miss you, but we are all better people for having had you in our lives.
Teresa Marie Banks (1948-2008) Obituary

Idaho Press Tribune, 06/04/08

Teresa Marie Banks passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. The Lord God said of Teresa in His Song of all Songs, "You have captured My heart with one look of your eyes."
Teresa also captured the heart of her husband, Robert K. (Bob) Banks. They were high school sweethearts and were married on June 19, 1971. More than anything, Teresa loved being a wife and the mother of her two children, Ryan and Andrea, and her new son-in-law, Todd Rubin.
Being the oldest child of Ives and Nina Jones, Teresa was born on Nov. 23, 1948, in Malad City. She certainly captured the heart of her father who preceded her in death just a little more than a month ago. Her beloved mother, Nina, her brother Todd and his family, her sister Di, and all Jones and Banks families mourn her loss but celebrate her life. Teresa loved all her nieces and nephews but particularly loved having special days and doing special projects with her nieces Morgan and Jenna. Teresa loved living, laughing and loving! Her many, many friends are too numerous to mention by name, but she loved you all.
Growing up in Malad City, Teresa eventually moved with her family to Caldwell where she graduated from high school in 1967. She attended Ricks College and BYU and graduated with a degree in speech therapy in 1971. After marrying Bob and following him in the Air Force and living in San Antonio, Texas, and Tempe, Ariz., Bob and Teresa came back to the Boise area where they have lived since 1980.
She worked as a speech therapist until her children were born and then focused her energy and attention upon them. Teresa loved the out-of-doors and the beauty of Idaho but one of her special spots was the cabin that she and Bob shared with Bob's parents, Chuck and Betty Banks.
All who knew Teresa were captured by her heart of love and the look of her beautiful blue eyes. She was the past president of Lexington Hill Home Owner's Association as well as volunteer extraordinaire at Eagle schools.
Teresa loved doing for others and making others look really good. Even though she did not want a big fuss made of her passing, the family invites you to a special celebration of her life. So on Friday, June 6, at 10 a.m. at Hillview United Methodist Church, 8525 Ustick, in Boise, her family has planned a spontaneous celebration in her honor. Arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
Her understanding heart would be blessed by any memorial given to any charity. However, it was Teresa's wish that memorials be made to ECHO, "Everyone Can Help Out," an educational foundation established by her son-in-law to help with college scholarships. This was her preference in lieu of flowers. People can donate on line at www.echocf.org or ECHO Headquarters, 9064 161st Ct. NE, Redmond, WA 98052.
The entire family wishes to thank the many, many friends for their acts of kindness, wonderful gifts of food and flowers, but especially all their love and prayers.
Published in the Idaho Press Tribune on 6/4/2008.
Kenneth David Jones (1931-2008) Obituary

Kenneth DaviD Jones

POCATELLO — Kenneth David Jones, 77, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 20,
2008, with his wife of 56 years and his sister by his side.
He was born January 2, 1931, to William J. Jones (Trinket) and Blodwin Lloyd Jones in Malad, Idaho. The third of six children, he attended school in Malad for 11 years. In 1948, the family moved to Woodburn, Ore., where he completed his last year of high school.
Kenneth joined the National Guard his senior year, staying active in the reserves through 1957. After high school, still active in the National Guard, Kenneth attended Oregon State University in journalism and printing. He went on to complete a nine-year apprenticeship in the newspaper business and ended his successful and challenging career of accomplishments in April 1993.
Kenneth also met Eva May Rheinholdt during high school in 1948 and later married in July 1951. They had two sons, Randy and David, while still in Oregon, and a daughter, Belinda, after moving to Idaho.
Kenneth followed the newspaper business from Twin Falls to McCammon and American Falls and then settled in Pocatello. Kenneth enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife, brothers, sister and parents around Arco, Idaho. He also enjoyed snowmobiling in the foothills of Pocatello as well.
Kenneth had a thirst for the outdoors and loved to be on the back of a horse pushing cattle from one meadow across mountain ranges to another meadow. You can look at any mountain from Malad to Fort Hall and find the imprints of his horses’ hooves in the soft soil.
In 1993, Kenneth’s world changed due to a stroke, which left him partially paralyzed. He and Eva bought a place in Arizona, at which time they joined the ranks of snowbirds. They enjoyed nine years of warm weather and friends in Arizona during the winter and the love of their family in the summers back in Pocatello.
By 2002, Kenneth’s health had deteriorated to the point where the arduous task of to and fro became overwhelming. Kenneth continued hunting as well as checking cattle from the comfort of a four-wheel drive with his sons and grandsons. He also attended the occasional horse sale or cattle sale up until the last couple years.
To sum it up, he was a very hard-working man that would not let a little thing like a stroke stop him from doing the things he loved with those that he loved, and they as well loved him and will miss him forever.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 2 p.m., intheHorsleyFuneralHome,132 W. 300 N., Malad. Friends may visit with family on Friday prior to services from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.

Mary Donna King Lawrence (1927-2008) Obituary

Deseret Morning News, 05/22/08

Mary Donna King Lawrence passed away at home 19 May 2008 of complications of Parkinson's disease after having courageously and graciously faced a gradually worsening illness for nearly 15 years. Her husband, who was her gentle, patient caregiver throughout her illness, and family members were by her side.Mary was born 22 May 1927 in Malad, Idaho, to William F. and Iduma Willie King, the last of their ten children. She grew up on the family farm near Buist, Idaho, and then later in Logan, Utah, graduating from Logan High School and earning a B.S. degree in education from Utah State University. She was married to Alma C. Lawrence in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in July, 1953, and together they raised a family of seven children. Mary's greatest joys were her husband and family. She was a devoted, loyal friend and beloved companion to her husband, and the nurturing, enabling champion of her children. She loved learning and working with her family, crying and laughing and playing with them, and sharing her experiences and testimony with them. Her family will be forever grateful for her enduring faith and wise counsel and for her silent prayers that kept them safe and her spoken prayers that pierced their hearts. Mary revered her pioneer ancestors and sought always to emulate their devotion to the Savior. She served as a full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ in the New England States Mission from 1951-1953; and many years later, she served a second mission with her husband in the Montana Billings Mission. During her lifetime, she served with devotion in a variety of callings in the Church she loved so well-in the Primary and with the Young Women, as a ward choir director and ward music leader, and as an instructor. But perhaps her greatest loves among her callings were these two: first, the Relief Society, because she loved visiting teaching and she delighted in serving for many years in ward and stake Relief Society presidencies; and second, the St. George Temple, where she had the cherished privilege of serving with her husband for several years as a temple worker. She also felt keenly the obligation to provide meaningful community service, assisting with adult education and Boy Scout/Cub Scout programs, acting as a judge of elections and a member of several jury pools, and opening her heart and home to many individuals in need. Passionate about education and the arts, she instilled in her children and in those who knew her well a love for learning and exploring, for reading and for all good books, music, art, and theater, and for genuine beauty. These loves, she believed, augmented faith and character and increased one's capacity to feel, perceive, heal, and serve. Mary is survived by her husband Alma; by her seven children, Keith (Tracy) Lawrence, Steven (Louise) Lawrence, Elaine (Doug) Croft, Terri (Newell) Peterson, Raelyn (Matt) Johnson, Cleon (Melanie) Lawrence, and Devon (Vickie) Lawrence; by 35 grandchildren; 17 great-grand children; and by two brothers, Owen (Helen) King and Grant King. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her seven other siblings, and by three grandchildren. The family expresses deepest gratitude to Mary's friends and neighbors for countless acts of Christian service--sometimes at great personal sacrifice--that blessed Mary's life; to Becky, Donna, Debbie, Marie, and Norma, the angel caregivers and hospice nurses who gave Mary their love as well as their support and aid; and to Dr. Julia Meyer, whose wise professional care added several meaningful and satisfying years to Mary's life. Viewings will be held Friday, 23 May, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 24 May, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., both in the Relief Society room of the Summit Ward building, 55 East Main in Summit, Utah. The funeral service will be held Saturday, 24 May at 1 p.m. in the Summit Ward chapel. Interment will be in the Summit Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Published in the Deseret News on 5/22/2008.
Bonnie Williams Johnson (1937-2008) Obituary

The Standard Examiner, 05/14/08

SOUTH OGDEN – On Sunday, May 11, 2008 as time expired for the Lakers in Game 4 against the Utah Jazz, the game clocks final tick also came for one of the Jazz greatest fans. Bonnie Williams Johnson passed away after a 42 year battle with diabetes.

Bonnie was born August 15, 1937 in Malad, Idaho, to John J. and Leona J. Williams. She was a graduate of Malad Schools and had attended Weber State College.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On August 29, 1955, she married Hugh F. Johnson in Elko, Nevada. After her marriage she resided in Inglewood, California for four years and in South Ogden for the past 48 years. While in California she was employed by Security First Bank. She worked for Mountain West Savings & Loan as branch manager of the Newgate office and the Layton Branch, a job she loved, until 1984 when she retired after losing her eyesight.

Until her health forced a change of lifestyle, Bonnie loved the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, both water and snow, and working in her yard.

Bonnie’s love of people and her outgoing personality drew people to her and she was always willing to help a friend in need. Her greatest joy was her family. When her health began to fail, it was the simple things in life that brought her the most joy. Simple things like holding hands with her sweetheart of 53 years who was her second set of eyes and always there for her, having a conversation with her children or siblings, or listening to a Jazz game which gave her such pleasure especially this season. Even though life dealt her some setbacks, she never complained and her standard answer was always “pretty good” when asked how she was doing.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Intermountain Healthcare Hospice, Dr. John Wood, Tammy Goodwin, Crystal Smith and the rest of the team whose care, concern and assistance was immeasurable.

Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband, Hugh, daughter, Jill, both of South Ogden; and son Hugh (Kim) of Enfield, Connecticut; three sisters, Mary Delene Edwards, Salt Lake City; Ila Mae (Wynn) John, Portage, Utah; and Rosalee (Tyndale) Evans, Downey, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, and a nephew and two nieces.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com

Annis Jones Fowles (1912-2008) Obituary

The Idaho Statesman, 05/11/08

Annis Jones Fowles died of natural causes on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Nampa, Idaho. She was born Dec. 30, 1912, in a log cabin to a pioneer family in Malad, Idaho. Annis was the fifth and youngest child born to Hugh William Jones and Margaret Mae Palmer. Annis was educated in Malad schools and graduated from Malad High School in 1931. She attended Albion Normal School, a two year college, in Albion, Idaho, and graduated from there in 1934 with a teaching certificate. Mrs. Fowles taught grades one through four in a two-room school in Daniels, Idaho, a small farming community. She then taught for four years in Malad. In Albion, Annis met E. Russell Fowles and they were married on April 6, 1939 in St. Ignatius, Mont. while they were on their way to school at the University of Idaho. The marriage was solemnized in 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple. To this union were born four daughters; Sally Jo, Margaret Ann, Kay and Jean. The family moved to Caldwell in July 1947 and she resided there for 60 years in the family home at 103 Dearborn St. Annis was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was active in church and served faithfully. She was active in PTA and served on the election board for many years. At 21 she was eligible to vote and the first time she cast a ballot she voted for her father who was elected a Senator from Oneida County to the first Idaho State Legislature. She personally voted in every election since that time and in 2006 voted an absentee ballot for the first time. Annis was never one for the 'good ole days' because there were washboards, coal cook stoves, horses and wagons. She thought the greatest inventions to be electricity, the washing machine and the electric stove. Annis was the last living member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her husband, Russ Fowles in 2000; her daughter, Margaret Hall in 2006; her son-in-law, Ron Bridges in 1995; her parents; and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Sally J. Bridges of Bellevue, Wash., Kay (John) Denny of Sammamish, Wash., and Jean (Al) Heck of Caldwell, Idaho.
