John Deschamps Dredge, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 after a stroke. He was born July 26, 1934, in Malad, Idaho to Shelba Deschamps and Jesse Richard Dredge.
He attended elementary and high school in Malad, then attended and graduated from BYU. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held varied positions, his favorite being in the Scouting program. He served in the Central Atlantic States Mission for the LDS Church, and in the Army for 2 years in Chicago.
He was very outgoing and loved being with and learning about all sorts of people. He also loved working with wood, whittling and teaching others how to carve safely, and making useful items like spoons, spatulas and chop sticks. He also made many lovely baskets out of pine needles. He loved his large and interesting family.
He is survived by one sister, Marilee (Brent) King, and 3 brothers: Jesse Richard Dredge, David Ray (Helen) Dredge and Louis Stephen (Marla) Dredge; his wife Marilyn, and 9 children: Kathleen (John) Clark, Maureen (Clair) Mills, John Jr. (Suzanne) Dredge, Michelle (Nelson) Palmer, Cheryl (Kirk) Rich, Jeanette (Kenneth) Martin, Robert (Anissa) Dredge, Deborah (Brandon) Nixon, Douglas (Christine) Dredge; 39 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Christine) and one sister-in-law (June Dredge).
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 30th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Cherry Hill 5th Ward, 135 East 2000 South, Orem, Utah. A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Interment in Orem City Cemetery.
