Mary Louise Jones Nielson, age 93, left her loving family on December 23, 2017, of causes due to age. She was surrounded at all times by loving family members who came to be by her side. Born September 22, 1924 to Thomas S. Jones and Ann Thorpe in Downey, Idaho, and spent her early years in St John and Malad City where she graduated from Malad High School in 1943. She was a devoted wife to Calvin J. Nielson, whom she married on March 23 1946. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1988. She retired from the VA after more than 30 years, and then volunteered for the SL health department for 15 years. She had a passion for couponing and saving money that kept her cupboards filled. She willingly shared her coupon bounty with care packages dropped unexpectedly at her children's homes. She loved reading Harlequin Romance novels, and any magazine she could get her hands on. She never missed a game show and if one wasn't on, she watched old 1980's game shows. She loved Sunday dinners, weekly pinochle, quiddler, and poker games, her own nightly solitaire card games and dining out with all of her kids. Mom and Dad purchased their home in 1955 where she lived until her death and always considered it to be her castle.
One of her last acts was thinking of every member of her family and making sure they received their Christmas cards before she passed away.
She is survived by 4 children, and their spouses; whom she loved as her own. Patricia Nunley, Doug and Elaine Nielson, Sandy and Wayne Goodwin, Barbara and Brent Lowry. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, all of whom she was able to watch grow up and start a family of their own. She had a special grandson, Jeff Robison, who along with his wife, Robin and their 2 kids, gathered all their Christmas presents every year and took them to Grandma Mary's house so she wouldn't have to spend Christmas morning alone.
She is also survived by 32 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
She is survived by sisters Delores Nielson, Lila and Garrett Billings and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by parents Thomas S. and Ann Thorpe Jones, husband, Calvin J Nielson, brothers, David L , Roland (Bob), Joseph T Jones and sister Eleene Quarles.
Funeral Service will be held at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South in West Valley City, Utah on Saturday December 30, 2017, viewing from 12:00 - 1:15, service at 1:30.
