MALAD — Velma Roderick Ipsen, 85, was born August 30, 1922, in Malad, Idaho, to Mary Jane Myler Roderick and William Price Roderick. She lived her entire life in Oneida County. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 7, 2008, in Malad, Idaho.
She attended Pleasant View Elementary School and Malad High School.
She married her high school sweetheart, Parry Ipsen, on Jan. 14, 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away July 3, 1974.
Velma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings, including Young Women President, Primary President, Relief Society counselor, many teaching callings, ward missionary, and Spanish Extraction for more than 20 years. She served a full-time mission in the California, Arcadia Mission in 1984-1985.
Her true love in life was her family. She spent her days serving and visiting her numerous posterity. She was a passionate gardener and quilter, a beautiful seamstress. Every family member craved her delicious cooking, especially her homemade bread. She traveled extensively with family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Myrtle Roderick, Isabelle Ashton, and Thora Hess; son, Parry Keith Ipsen; daughter, Anita Garner (Boyd); and son, Lyman Jeffery Ipsen; great-granddaughters, Lydia Hunter and Isabella Olson.
She is survived by children Mary Lynn Spahr (Dick), Malad; Janice Hughes (Mike), Big Piney; Brenda Coombs (Brent), Caldwell; Mark Ipsen (Cydney), Malad; Karen Hilton (Kent), Sandy; Susan Coombs (Mark), Caldwell; Kathryn Collett (Glen), Sandy; and Bruce Ipsen, Nampa; 53 grandchildren; 107 greatgrandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, 1100 W. 1250 N. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., and on Tuesday at the Funeral Home before the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
She has been a wonderful example of charity and service to all who know her. She will be greatly missed.
