William L. Luchte/Lucas was born in 1836 in Godelheim, Westphalen, Germany. He was the second son of a Von Luchtenburg family, and as the second son, had to join the army or the clergy, as everything went to the first born son. He left Germany to escape the army, and ended up serving in the civil war. He was discharged under the name of William Lucas/alias Luchte. He married Katherine Regan in 1864. They had my great-great grandmother Mary Theresa Luchte, who married Dennis Henry McGrath and had my grandmother, Gladys, in 1898 in Wyoming. Her brother was Harold McGrath, my favorite great uncle, who worked in Walla Walla. What is your connection?
